D&D (3rd edition) Weapons

Hey y'all. I'm fiddling around with making some truly exotic weapons. I'm going for a steampunkish type feel, with firearms fueled by alchemy and melee weapons of exteme weirdishness (like a mace that transforms into a flail by launching the head with a powerful alchemical punch).

I'm trying to figure out the flavor for a light saber without employing magic. Anybody got any ideas?

Take a page from Gundam: Heat Weapons. Basically, the main blade portion (or simply the edge) is superheated somehow, allowing the weapon to melt things on contact. Make them out of adamantine or something and then run an electric current through them. Works kinda like a heating coil.

Take a look at Nordom's crossbow bolts from Planescape: Torment. Especially the acid sponge, jagged, rule-of-three and zephyr bolts.

Another kind of steam-punkish weapon from PS:T is the Mark of the Savant a set of intricately geared punch daggers that double as lock-picks.

That suggestion spawned something, Ash. I created a hollowed whip that can be ignited with alchemist's fire for a few rounds. I know that's really not at all like a light saber, but it's a freaking cool idea anyway. Thanks for the inspiration.

And those punch daggers may take me someplace, too, the next time I stop to think about it, though nothing sprang to mind immediately.
