Hi all.

I'm trying to get my group back into DnD, but since they went online with the char builder, but it's absolute crap, I'm looking for solutions, as we can't seem to get the offline builder (Which also misses all the updates now).

Are there any good solutions maybe made by fans or anything that could be what we're looking for?

We want the updates of the online, with the customizing of the offline version. Unless it's been added since I last saw.

I use Hero Lab for my Pathfinder games. It has a free demo and I don't know how well it works for 4th Edition, but I do know that it's fucking incredible for Pathfinder and I find it invaluable. The only downside is for full functionality it can be pricey but I think it's very much worth it.

Oh, that reminds me, I have to get the Bestiary 3 update.

It doesn't work for 4e at all.

The online 4e char gen is not bad at all, Doom. It may not update as much as it needs to, but it works fine for base rules with a few additional books added in.

It has a 4th Edition option or are you just saying it's shit for 4th?

The Pathfinder doesn't work for 4e. The rules are just too different. It's great for 3.5 or Pathfinder games, though.

Ooh! I never saw they had others than the Pathfinder one! I'll check out the 4e one and see. Holy crap! I've only ever been linked to the one and didn't know they had others!

Holy shit, Frankie! I've been fucking missing out! This thing rocks!

I've only been linked to the free Pathfinder version and didn't know it had stuff for other games. And the full version is only $30! Well worth the cost when I have the money to get it. And since it's got an authoring kit I can make a char gen for my game and maybe start a game on here using Ironwood as the base.

I use HeroForge for Excel for 3.5 E -http://www.nzcomputers.net/heroforge/default35.asp - also use the SpellForge for spell lists.

They have some 4E stuff as well - http://www.nzcomputers.net/heroforge/default4e.asp

They're supposed to have a standalone software program, but it's unavailable at the moment - http://www.heroforgesoftware.com/

Also Pathfinder - http://www.nzcomputers.net/heroforge/defaultpath.asp

Has an active Yahoo group for development too - http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Hero_Forge/

Just let me know what form (file extension) the character sheets are in and I'll make sure I add this to the board so you can attach them.

I'd almost go so far as to suggest using Google Hangout in addition to other solutions.

I know there were people who were keeping the stand alone char creator up to date.... let me see if I can find that link..

Once I get paid I think I'm getting the full version of the Hero Lab thing and putting in my game. I'll see here who is interesting in trying out a whole new (new to you at least) system.

I took another look at the online creator, and it's gotten much better since I last saw it several months ago. It will do what I need. Apparently my subscription hasn't run out yet.

There's a community out there on a forum that has detailed instructions on how to "break" the old CB, and files that people have done with new content and such. I haven't read it all, but that's what it looks like.
