Hi all, I like to litter my D&D battlegrounds with some interactive environmental elements-- you know, barrels of oil and the like.

Thing is, I have hard time coming up with anything other than barrels of oil. It's kind of the go-to thing-- everybody needs oil for some reason or another, so it's likely that there would be barrels of it lying around for kicking into enemies and setting them on fire.

But-- what else? I know you can put traps and such, but I'm looking for generic things that could fit almost anywhere. The only things I can think of that are fairly common are:

- Barrels of oil
- Chandeliers (totally cliche)
- Bookcases (for toppling over on someone)
- Uhhhhhhhhh, yeah

Seriously, I love environmental elements to interact with, and I can come up with some unique ones now and again, but I'm having a hard time thinking of -common- ones.

Any ideas? :)

Fireplaces (push a guy into it... take the poker out and stab a guy with it)

Bucket of soapy water (makes the floor slick)

Food Items (For epic food fight)

Go even more basic. Use decent inclines so that the battlefield has advantages, difficult to go up, skill checks to go down, or else DERP. Natural obstacles such as walls, pits, water, etc...

Do many D&D threads recently.....

Cover is important as well. You want lots of low walls to hide behind, tables to flip over, Smoke obscuring the view...

I knew it was a good gun fight in Deadlands if a table got tossed over.

- Unstable masonry, loose soil, crumbling stairs, and other stuff that can collapse when hit or stepped on.
- Piles of manure, garbage, oyster shells (which can be razor sharp) or other refuse.
- Stacks of barrels (doesn't matter what's in them), remove the stops at one end and watch them roll.
- Market stalls, "My cabbages!"
- Soup pots/cauldrons
- Hanging tapestries
- Mud / quicksand
- Fragile treasures (keep them intact and you can sell them later)

Put your players in fun places to fight through. Gardens, electronics shops. Antique stores, but only if they're classy.
