Dead Like Me

Holy crap, why do I show up at the "good show" party late? This show is AWESOME. How could they cancel it? Witty, funny, clever, and full of genuinely poignant moments. I mean if the little girl passing on in the pilot doesn't get you, you're pretty tough. I also really, really liked when the transsexual guy had his moment of shaken faith in the church. The music they chose was great. And Mandy Patinkin. Sheesh if I had a crush on a dude... His delivery is spectacular, and he's perfectly cast.

Poor Bryan Fuller. Every magical death show he gets is cancelled.

As I recall, they canceled it the show had very low exposure and after Bryan Fuller got booted over outstanding contractual issues, Showtime got cold feet and decided not to risk any more money.

Damn shame, was a good show.

Yesterday, I saw the "wrap-up film" Dead Like Me: Life After Death. I am a big fan of the show, but this film didn't feel the same.

I've still only seen bits and pieces to the second season. I'll have to get around to that someday.

Oh God, I watched this show last year. When I finished, I was all "man, that was amazing! I need more show! Oh, hey, there's a movie! I'll watch that!"

Lord, that was one of the worst experiences of my life. The movie is so awful it pretty much ruined the whole show for me. Do not, for the love of all that is holy (or unholy), watch that movie.

I've still never seen the movie, and being as my memory of the show is overwhelmingly good, and I've heard the polar opposite is true of the movie, I think I'm okay with that.

Still, morbid curiosity might get the better of my some day.

Also Mandy Patinkin rocks ultimate.

Such a great show.

Such a... not as great movie. Just pretend it never happened.

A friend of mine was on the crew of Dead Like Me way back when. Apparently, Mandy Patinkin was an arrogant asshole, the chick who played George loooooooooved the nose candy and the blonde chick who played Daisy on the show was easily the nicest person on the cast to the crew.

You know, that doesn't really surprise me. I've heard that Mandy Patinkin is extremely hard to work with on most shows (I think I recall that being discussed with Chicago Hope and Criminal Minds).

YOu know what annoyed me about this show? Nothing about its own merits, mind you. It's a great show.

The gravelings.

They look very similar to the goshen in my comic. Well, mildly. But more importantly, they're very similar in purpose. No one can see the goshen except the magically attuned. They don't really do anything directly. They just set things in motion that influence the acts of others. Alone, they're not much of a threat, but they cause things to happen that are. I was irritated enough to change my story dramatically a few years back when Full Metal Alchemist came out with its long blond-haired alchemy wielding protagonist. This is even closer. Bleh. I mean I know that similar creatures have existed elsewhere, but this is so close.
