HOW IN CHRIST DO YOU MANAGE LONG HAIR *flails, entangled in a wig and falls over*

I'm going to an anime con in a week and a half and am going as a character with very long hair.

However, I have no experience with any hair longer than, er.. well the longest my bangs have been is touching the top of my nose.

ANYWAY, how do I make this wig not look like an evil badger attacking my head?? *struggles with it some more*

Steven Soderburgin

Perhaps you need a better wig, or advice from those familiar with wigs or cosplay.

I would say its a wig issue. I am a guy and have long hair and I do not have the frustration you seem to be having.

Sigh, I'm going to regret this...

If it's a nylon wig, there's not a whole lot you can do. The fibers get stretched out and appear ratty, even after combing them.

If it's a natural hair wig, a good washing and combing should do the trick.

Because... we're pretty?

Also, this is why I don't cosplay. Can't be bothered.

I'm going on year and a half of having shaved my head and still loving every second of it.

This thread needs more...

BRUCE!!!

Not a woman, but my hair's thick and curly...after it got to shoulder length, I said "screw it" and decided to dreadlock it and save myself the trouble.

As for the wig, not really much to do :/

SeraRelm

Bruce in a wig?

I'd still hit that.

What's your costume?

Chibibar

ok. I have worn a few wigs (cosplay male and female characters)

Here are couple of tips.

Nylon wigs
1. Hair net, you are going to need it. If not, it is going to itch (at least for me)
2. bobby pins are your friend. You would need help from a friend to pin it to your hair net.

Things to do before you wear the wig
1. comb and style it as best as you can. If it is too tangle, it might be a lost cause :( my wife and I manage to save a few using a comb and water and manually untangle it.
2. Hair spray is your friend. Once it is styled, spray it to seal it in. The downside is that will be permanent. note: use hairspray ONLY if you are NOT planning to reuse the wig in different style. Nylon + hairspray = stick almost permanently. It will be very difficult to change it later :) (yea I got like 3 wigs and my wife have like 8)

Once you get the thing on. Now walking. the bobby pins will keep the thing in place, but AVOID high wind area, fans, running, and fast movement. It will fall off or snag and it will suck for you..... big time. Most you can do is walk normally (slow if possible) and pose for photo ops :)

note from wife: If you can braid your hair, it is a plus. You can use bobby pin to pin the wig to your hair that way. Hairnet OR bandanna works too.

Just say no, to cross dress cosplay!

#16

Chibibar

ummm.. I don't look that bad Shego :)

There are good male cosplayers. VERY few in the U.S. that I have met.

Is that JCM as "Mai"?

#20

Chibibar

heh..... I said few. Now I gotta go find some pictures of good male cosplayers who crossplay.

I know the Japanese cosplayers are superior than the American counter parts (at least at cons that I have attends over the years) some cosplayers shouldn't cosplay.

I have gain weight since I last crossplay so I don't crossplay anymore. I barely cosplay male character either until I get fit again.

Note: I think the 2nd guy from the left is my old roommate. I would have to rag on him on that cause he didn't do well.

So 99% of the group are men dressed as female characters, and the one female is playing a massive demon dude? What?

We need some good cosplay in here. =P

Since you asked and the scary obligatory Man-Faye and Sailor Bubba have been posted, I'll tell you--

I'm going as Man-Tifa! :D

But I'm not Crossplaying. If anything it's Mock-Playing, because it's fully intended to be a joke. Hairy legs, exposed man-midrift, etc. For the boobs I'm using Wal-Mart Hannah Montana-printed balls that you can see through the shirt.

It should be funny. But the wig's just a mess at this point. Taking it to my aunt's today to have her help me mess with it, and then my gf is gonna give as much last-minute help as she can a night or two before the con.

Anyone going to Persacon, stop by and say hey! :unibrow:

Given what you're going for... wouldn't the wig being all jacked up help your costume?

In a way, but with comedy there's a balance of "terrible" and "good" that must be reached, and for me, at least, the humor is, "Wow. That guy went through a lot of effort to make that costume look good just to be a jackass."

Honestly, this costume kicks ass. If there were a girl that matched my dimensions (I found out I'm a size 16 waist in girl-talk! :D Or wait... How does that work? DAMN YOU WAL-MART!), I would be able to hand it over to her and she would still be a very viable Tifa, albeit a tall, broad-shouldered one.

People should do GOOD cosplay (or crossplay) :)

A old friend of mine used wall paper glue to make the hair-slyles in his wigs rock solid for some 1920-ies era theatre production that included some dancing. No idea how he got them to stick on their heads though. Probably not glue.

I miss not having work mandated short hair and no beard. Before this job I was a total long hair, scraggly beard kind of guy.

There is good cosplay, a lot of it in Japan but I've seen some pretty kickass stuff at ComiCon and such. Some horrifying, of course, but some good.

My favorite is still the dude I saw in full camo gear with a ski mask and a big orange exclamation above his head. He stopped at every empty box he saw and aimed at it with his gun for a few seconds.

I am planning to be a big daddy (I'm going to try to do it right with lights and "spinning" drill - of course it is only a prop)
I may have to walk on stilts or high platform shoes (to make me look 6+ feet tall I'm only like 5'9)
