Okay, I know, Olberman and Patrick used to make fun of his name when he ran in NASCAR's highest levels in the 1990's, but Dick Trickle was a great man and a damn good race car driver.
He dominated the short track scene, especially the dirt ovals up here in North Central Wisconsin during the 1970's and 1980's. He became the Winston Cup rookie of the year in 1989 because he had nothing left to prove up here.
Unfortunately, it appears he became despondent over something, and committed suicide near the grave site of his granddaughter in North Carolina.
I remember rooting for Dick to finally win a NASCAR race in Milwaukee, over the July 4th weekend many years ago. He came up just short.
