Demographics: Autism Spectrum Quotient

Take the test, then answer the above poll. 50 questions, strongly agree, slightly agree, slightly disagree, strongly disagree. Pretty easy and quick, but spend some time thinking about each question rather than answering off the cuff.

My score: 32

I've taken it previously, and scored above average rather than very high, but thinking carefully about the questions I have to admit that I do become angry/anxious when plans change (even in minor ways) and I am very uncomfortable when trips and such are not very well planned out. Having kids has made me realize that I really don't make up stories, etc.

So I'm becoming more aware of myself.

Doesn't mean I have aspergers or autism, but there's a high correlation so it's worthwhile understanding it so I can figure out how to deal with things more appropriately.

The thing that's got me thinking about this is one of my children is displaying a few mild signs, but the wait list at the University of Michigan Autism Center is 9 months long, so we're going to have to do a lot of research on our own.

Silly rabbi, kicks are for trids.

I'm sorry, was that inappropriate? Now I have an excuse to be off the wall...

:-D

I find I err higher on the scale if I'm working. I have a very meticulous routine involved in my weekend shifts (like, planned down to the minute). And I tend to get more than a little stressed out if something prevents me from doing it. And I don't work too well with others, and don't like to delegate, etc.

Outside of work, though, and even between doing things at work, I'm a very social person. :)

I got... 6.

6?

Somewhat understandable... I do like people, in general, and my job requires me to actually talk to dozens of strangers a day.

But 6? Seems really low to me. I'd guess about 12, 13 if I had to.

23. I'm good with conversation and people, but it drives me nuts when things aren't planned out well or a routine is too heavily diverted from.

30, and I think I probably could have answered some of the questions differently after thinking more about it. I think working in software development I would find a lot of my coworkers score about the same.

17, completely average.

That said, i am positive that I would have scored much higher when I was younger.

It wasn't until my 30's that I really was able to visualize images in my mind, or make up stories from whole cloth, for instance.

23. Above average as usual! :smug:

...oh wait....

I'm really good at picturing characters (one reason I'm a little critical when it comes to based on book movies) and as pillow talk I usually make the boyfriend laugh with my outrageous Warcraft renditions of why Azeroth has a thousand needles or how the gnomes came to be because of a clumsy goblin named Fizzle Sprizzsprocket (lookin' forward to that November contest). And I am good at pretend. I feel very comfortable with my Kindergartners.

30. It's not too much of a surprise. I don't think I have aspergers, but I do have asperger-tendencies every now and then.

Not surprising. I've had autism bandied about by doctors since I was a kid. That's the great thing about this place. I can be the me I am in my head, and not the socially uncomfortable me. I've learned how to fake it through life, though. All you have to do is act like a confident person would, even if you're not. Still don't know how to have a conversation, though.

Sounds a lot like me. I feel like I am faking my way through life sometimes.

11, and I tend to consider most of these types of questions to be situational in their entirety, so they're never very accurate, in my opinion.

Just because I want to, here's a video I love of a kid with Asperger's and his friend. They're very sweet together. I think it's fascinating, and it reminds me that everyday awkwardness is so different from the actual disorder. And really, he's a sweet little guy. I love him to death. :) But I couldn't tell him that, because it would scare him.

19, average.

I would have thought higher, but as always tests like this one have questions that are ambiguous or depend on the situation.

Yes, I get miffed when plans are changed... but mostly if it's because of my parents barging in.

Social chit-chat... please, define. I'm told Finns don't really do 'social chit-chat' in the first place.

And so on.

#23

Cajungal

Cajungal

I considered "social chit chat" to be bland, polite conversation you hold with people you don't really know yet--Questions and comments you have almost memorized for everyday encounters:

Weather, where you work/go to school, nice jacket, etc.

I prefer witty banter to social chit-chat myself, but to each his own I guess.

See, that's what I meant.

Finns don't do that. Usually there's always someone who knows both sides in this situation who introduces them and throws in a topic. A moderator, if you will ;)

If I would go around making comments about the weather (except when it's completely shitty like today), people would think me strange.

12- I am very social and very adaptable.

I need my SO to take this though. I am pretty damned sure he has Asperger's. He's *very* smart, but plumb people stoopid, and lots of odd traits- hypersensitivities to sound and color and textures, has difficulty with humor and empathy, and will go on and on and on at me for upward of 45 minutes if I've pissed him off about (what I consider to be) little shit.

It's a play of words on the whole "Tell El Juski I love her" meme. I've seen "Tell Shego I loathe her" as well, and some others. This is probably one of the nicer ones so far/

It's also misspelled.
It's also been added to the wiki. It is exactly 25 characters long, the limit of the forum tags, so the misspelling is intentional.

Thank you. There is a lot the self-diagnosis of Asperger's out there, and I don't think all those self-diagnosers realize how different Asperger's is from just being a social outcast.

30 above average. I am a little surprised that I did not score higher. I think that in a therapeutic session I'd likely score higher.

I am socially awkward, but I do go out in public a lot. I just don't end up making many friends.

I also tend to ask inappropriate questions, not so much say inappropriate things.

21. I'm mildly socially inept, completely unable to use numbers in any form, but I have a pretty good imagination for stories and role playing...

Well, It didn't surprise me I was on the higher end of the average numbers...

...But I'm sure four years ago I would have been in the average group.

16 -- super average. I have alot of social anxiety but I also have a very vivid imagination and am horrible with numbers... so I guess i balance myself out.

I scored a 29. I think that's due to two things. I'm not very good at reading people, though oddly enough people tell me I'm quite charming and good with people, so maybe I just feel like I don't know what I'm seeing. The second thing I think the high score comes from is my poor health. Because I'm exhausted all the time I really like routine and hate surprises, among other things. If I didn't have to plan how to spend my energy so carefully, I'd like change more than I do.

13.

I've always felt that I'm terrible with people, but I'm either great at hiding it or no one notices. I don't talk much, but I look nice or something, so people chatter to fill the silence, usually wind up getting something off their chest, and then feel better through no action of mine. I'm pretty good at putting myself in other people's shoes, but pretty bad at giving advice from it.

Also, I suck with numbers, so that lowers my autism rating a nice bit. Oh, an I'm bitchin' in the imagination department, too, I guess.
