Difficult to find movies you love(d)

Are there movies you loved when you saw them, only to be disappointed that there was no video release. Or if there was, it was only an ancient VHS version?

I can think of two. As of last check, no DVD existed of these (though that may no longer be true.)

1. The Peanut Butter Solution I can think of no one who was not suitably creeped out by this Canadian film back in the mid 80s. It's just plain weird, but also really good. I love a kid's film that goes totally over the edge like this. (See also Troll, but that's easy to find.)

2. The Halloween Tree Excellent made for TV (I think) adaptation of Bradbury's classic. Huge Bradbury fan--man can that guy write. The animated movie featured Leonard Nimoy and Bradbury himself, and a decent score. Nice and dark.

I remember liking Peter Jackson's Bad Taste long ago, even though I could barely understand a lot of the dialogue due to the shitty audio production. Anyone know if there is a cleaned-up DVD version (since I hear the chap has since done well for himself)?

Also curious whether The Kentucky Fried Movie and The Groove Tube got themselves cleaned up. Absolute classic sketch comedy movies.

Took em forever to put They Live on mass dvd. But man, was I happy when they did. I love me some John Carpenter movies. I have pretty much all of em in my collection.

Also, Flash Gordon was a bitch to get back then too, had to order that shit from another damn country.

Not a movie, but the "Il était une fois..." series, and "Buiten de Zone", the best Belgian comedy series of the 90s. The first does, apparently, exist in DVD version, but I've never seen them; the second doesn't exist and will never be made, because the soundtrack is too expensive to license :-(

Hell yes there is!

High Road to China

Haven't seen it in ages but have fond memories. I really liked to see it as Indiana Jones light (what it clearly tried to be in some kind), but with its own qualities.
I mean it has Wilford Brimley in a funny role and of course there even is BRIAN BLESSED!
And we all know that Tom Selleck nearly could've been Indiana Jones...

Not a movie, but the "Il était une fois..."
Is that the awesome educational cartoon? My little sister has them all (in spanish) right here at home! Human history, human body, inventors, musicians... and even one called "space", that seems to be crappy science fiction... I was pretty shocked reading the plot outlines in the back of those dvd boxes...

In spain, Planeta DeAgostini has them. I'd check the belgian DeAgostini branch or whatever it may be.

Labyrinth used to be INSANELY hard to find on VHS.

As for current stuff. I still want a DVD copy of Midnight Lace. The only copies you can get now are people who've transferred the VHS to dvd.

I have all but Il était une fois... la vie on DVD. Even the really crappy one that came out two years ago. Boy, is that ever a bastardization of the good old versions... plus, it's preachy as hell. Then again, it is about environmentalism, so colour me surprised.

Mine are in Finnish, though, so I fear I can be of little help to you, Bubble...

Personally I've had trouble finding Dune on DVD here in Finland. Sure, the TV series is about, but not the movie... *sighs*

Rosecrans and Guilderstern are Dead, was insanely hard to find at one time. Pre-widespread internet I could not find it. I had it taped off of a satellite but the quality was crap. I ended up hitting every rental and suncoast records that I could find with no luck. Five years on, I just happened to find it in a Best Buy.

Spaced Invaders.. I thought I was the only person on earth who saw that movie. I have it on dvd so yea.

I watched the Halloween Tree with a group of preschoolers and we all got nightmares. I will never watch that movie again.

Pretty much impossible, unless I'm mistaken it's still tied up in intellectual property rights hell.
