Bethesda's next title has been revealed - a first-person, stealth-based action game called Dishonored that is in development by Arx Fatalis creator Arkane Studios.

Studio co-founder Raphael Colantonio is on board, as is Harvey Smith, one of the developers behind Deus Ex, and Viktor Antonov, the designer who created Half-Life 2's City 17.

Dishonored is an open-ended adventure title that allows players to tackle missions in a number of different ways, from stealthily completing tasks to letting loose on hordes of enemy soldiers. How players decide to deal with problems will shape Dishonored's world.

Antonov is helping to create the futuristic world, while Smith will be working as co-creative director alongside Colantonio to bring that world to life.

Colantonio explained, "At Arkane we have a passion for creating deep, immersive game experiences. To be able to finally share details of our project is both extremely exciting and satisfying."

The game is due for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in 2012.

Dishonored is the first title from Arkane since it was acquired by Bethesda parent company ZeniMax in August of last year.

Arkane != Bethesda right?

I mean, they are both Zenimax, but they aren't the same house. That would be like saying that Bethesda developed Rage, or that iD is doing the Elder Scrolls MMO.

Well, hopefully they make a playable game that isn't the fucking mess Dark Messiah was when it came out.

The trailer looks good, but it's by Arkane, who don't have a good track record for QA being published by Bethesda, who have an even worse track record for QA.

I think a little skepticism is warranted.

So Jay has around a 50% hit rate for his Anticipation Station threads.

Wait, would Diablo 3 be a hit or miss?

D3 was a hit. Albeit no where close to some others.

Anyways, we'll see more footage for this from E3 soon... when is that again?

...OK, some of these powers look broken as hell. However, you most likely don't have access to ALL of these at once (from what I hear the "runes" they mention are like Praxis Points in Deus Ex: Human Revolution so it may take a while before you have that much power)

That said, this looks pretty awesome and open ended. Can't wait.

Time to revive this thing.

I'm loving this game, even though I keep assing it up with the stealth. I intend to be more methodical in future bits. So glad that you can hide under tables--it makes a big difference to me. I've not yet finished the first assassination. Too busy finding side quests, runes, and bones.

The setting is great. I'm impressed by the pseudo-science bullshit I'm finding in the different articles around, like the belief that because machines run on whale oil, that whales run on whale oil, or that hard labor helps the muscles squeeze out evil feelings to make men pious. It's gotta be tough to come up with that kind of ignorance that believes it's genius.

My current trick, if I've only fucked up enough that one guy knows I'm there, is to Blink behind him and get stabbing. I'm trying hard not to waste my sleeping darts, but the rats are monstrous. I killed a guy on the street, went into a house, and felt my controller going nuts, trying to warn me about something. I turn around after scoping the place and find all the corpse's skin is chewed off. So then I pull him off the street, dump him behind a table, and head upstairs. The controller goes nuts again. I come down after a couple minutes, and there's nothing left but a partial abdomen--head, limbs, a bunch of other stuff's all gone.

And of course at that point, one of my big rats who was on the couch at the time decides to start grinding his teeth beside my ear.

I should rephrase. I'm managing to stay stealthy, I'm not managing to stay unstabby. I was trying to keep the murder to a minimum, but then I notice dozens and dozens of items that are nearly impossible to access without a bloodbath.

Slow time is great for blinking behind someone and putting them to sleep before the alert triggers.

I'm on what appears to be the final assassination and have only killed 2 people and the second one I don't even remember doing so. Granted I've been reloading a lot. so it doesn't really count in my book. I think one of the bodies I hid high up may have fallen...

Saving and reloading inbetween each encounter is not what I find fun, so that's probably my problem. I live with the consequences.

Totally understandable. That is what I plan to do for my second run.

Edit: I may also try turning off all objective markers and seeing how that goes.

I only reloaded after a bunch of kills tonight because I realized after the murder spree that I was backtracking and killing guys I'd successfully sneaked past earlier, for no reason. I'd found what I thought was an alternative route, that turned out to be an alternative way into the place I was already in.

Still in first assassination mission. Letting this thing breathe. My primary power goals are to get human possession, and then slow time and rat plague.

I managed to not get a single spot in an entire mission. I know this. I was meticulous. Everyone died without laying eyes on me.

Game disagreed. No ghost achievo for me.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuCK.

Sorry, vanished was the one I didn't get. Got it the second run, this time doing exactly the same thing I did the first time. Killed errrrrryone.

I'm almost done with this and I just love it. I'm sad that it's so freaking short.

I'm also sad that I bought it for 50 bucks and 2 days later Amazon dropped the price down to 25. Grrr.

It's worth at least 2 playthroughs. One clean, with few kills and mostly knockouts, and one dirty, with mostly kills. Racking up the chaos really changes how the levels feel and how the characters act around you.

High chaos final mission is much more satisfying in my opinion.

I wish this had been a game with a larger scope, and an open city to explore and pick up missions. It's a fun title, but misses its real potential, unfortunately.

It IS still a high quality title and the world shows a lot of potential.
