Is it just me, or does District 9 look an awful lot like Alien Nation?

"Yeah, fade, it's just you that looks like Alien Nation."

?

The upcoming movie District 9, and the 80s movie Alien Nation?

Both seem to involve aliens landing on earth due to car trouble and then being subjected to some quarantine and immigration type procedure. They even both seem to have the whole "news footage of giant craft over California" bit, and some dark plot involving the aliens.

Seems like I'm not alone in thinking so:

It's definitely similar. The ad campaign is interesting. The movie theater I went to last weekend had a sign up about it being a human only theater and any non-human activity should be reported. No mention of the movie at all.

Also, original Alien Nation trailer:

But...you just...quoted yourself and...we already...had a thread on this and...changed..user pic and...

...thought there was an evil Fade clone for a second and...

...brain...hurting.

Need to stop reading so many comics.

Didn't realize there was already a thread. My bad.

Not surprisingly, SyFy is remaking the spin off Alien Nation tv show.

Heh. It wasn't that. I actually thought someone made a Fade alt.

Also, I'm kinda curious to see District 9. It seems like a neat concept, like a concentration camp version of Alien Nation.

Just watched the two trailers in YouTube. The first one seemed to be playing off the situation as some kind of an allegory of the apartheid, with the aliens and their ship only showing at the very end. The other showed the escalating conflict between humanity and the aliens. For some reason, I liked the second trailer better ;)

Don't know if I'll go see this in the movies, but it certainly looks interesting.

Hey don't forget the the new Alien Nation series has Morena Baccarin as the main alien baddie.

Pretty Much, this is how I felt about the trailers. But I was already convinced about wanting to watch the movie with the first one (be it in at a theater or at home or whatever) and as a spolier hater, later felt sorry for having watched the second one...

Even though the movie itself does not interest me that much, I have to say the marketing campaign is very inventive. I visited the website and they had everything from documentary style videos, to recorded "911" calls involving non-humans all over the world. The interactive map is awesome, and when I signed in as a non-human, and attempted to visit the human section of the website, I got this cool little "We will come to pick you up, Non-human, for violating blah blah blah" that actually made me jump.

Also, something about the aliens makes me happy. I think it is the fact they don't look like humans with big heads or various other light changes to the human form. Instead they are full blown alien looking, something that would appear in a alien invasion horror movie, rather then something in which they are the ones being oppressed by humans. I like the role reversal.

Ha. I made the new avatar because I just drew that panel like 5 minutes before I made this post. I liked it, so I made it an avatar. That's like the first time I've changed my avatar in years.

On another note, my son (5) got a little scared when the snack bar line we were in at the theater said Humans Only. I don't know if he thought we were going to get in trouble, or if he thought there were non-humans around.
