Completely different direction to what I was expecting, but the bow tie rocks.

He'll probably win everyone over pretty quickly; at least the 80's aren't back

So, did the Tardis materialize in the middle of a gay parade or something, and the Doctor regenerated and wanted to fit in?

Chibibar

11th already??? wow.. this is not good.

Doctor's spoiler from the 4th.
[spoiler:ae66sj47]for those who didn't watch the earlier generations. The 4th doctor had to face trial on Gallafrey against himself (the 12th doctor) which is evil. I think that is natural since the Master was on his 12th regeneration. BUt since it was on the show, the 12th doctor WAS evil and try to take the doctor's remaining regeneration (at the time it was 8) for this crimes. Paradox doesn't exist for the Time Lord :)[/spoiler:ae66sj47]

Now nobody diss my man Colin. The 6th Doctor was the best ever, and his costume was awesome because what it said was: "I can dress however the fuck I want, bitch, and fuck you." This was the costume of a guy who has balls of bronze. God I wish he'd had a longer tenure. At least there's Big Finish.

actually.. i thnk it was meant to be a potential incarnation between his 12th and 13th, and uh... well, its a bit vague, but is also meant to be a distillation of his evil side.

That would make a pretty interesting show. Then have [spoiler:1qqahi5j]The Master pop in and spoil the Doctor's fun an the end of each episode.[/spoiler:1qqahi5j]

This new outfit is like a more modern version of the first doctor's.

It'll set him apart from Tennant and Eccelston, that's for sure. But, I mean, Tennant's original costume was tweaked a little bit since the first costume. Didn't he originally wear a leather trenchcoat for the first while until he did the 3-piece suit and cloth trenchcoat?

Still, i kinda dig it. Personally, I can't wait to see the new desktop theme (heh, I LOVE that term for the inner workings of the TARDIS).

I don't have the ability to look and check at the moment, but I think Tennent's costume for the first few episodes was the same jacket as Eccelston's, since those were the clothes he regenerated in. Eventually he had time to change, and have his own style.

But my memory is fuzzy, it might have been a different costume altogether.

He started off in the 9th Doctor´s clothes, than he used blue pajamas in the Christmas special, and ended it with a brown suit, trenchcoat and red sneaakers.

At the second season of the 10th dr, they got rid of the trenchcoat and gave him a blue suit instead.

Same as with Tennant, I'm going to hate the change at first and then grow kinda fond of it. Eh.

Mr_Chaz

It comes across in that photo as a bit dull. I'm not going to go through every single doctor's costume, but as far as I'm concerned he always has a vibrant bit to the costume (cue the bigger fans telling me where that's not true, don't bother :p This is just what I like to see), and this photo is such dull browns it just doesn't evoke anything in me other than a general mallaise. Maybe I expect too much, I dunno, it's just a bit plain for me.

I may have to hand in my testicles for never watching Rocky, but you sir, may just hand in your geek card and never have it back.

Also, Chib. I THINK the quote (from Time Crash) said vegetable, but I could be wrong. It's nipicking but yeah. :)

But yeah, to each their own, man. Might I ask which episode you watched? Because I find if you don't from the beginning (well, beginning of the current run, being "Rose"), I don't think you'd dig it as much. The show's meant to be kinda tongue-in-cheek sometimes, like a slightly more serious Hitchhiker's Guide.

Indeed.

But then Tennant went and established himself even more strongly than Eccleston had before him. I think if we had seen Eccleston stick with the role for a few more seasons we might have seen greater resistance than we did.

Matt Smith may have an... unusual look, but with the new companion around I don't think it will be an issue :unibrow:

It will be a pleasant change from Catherine Tate

I dunno, Tate really grew on me after a few episodes. It was nice to finally have a companion he could just banter with as opposed to one who was all doe-eyes over the Doctor every episode. Dude! God damn it! I love Tennant and everything, but his characterisation has been all over the damned place. The only thing that defines him is that he talks fast, shouts a lot and we're constantly told that he's wonderful. This is not Tennant's fault, the man is a fantastic actor. It's just the way the character is written.

Leaving my admittedly minority opinion about the 6th Doctor's greatness aside, Davison and Troughton were more interesting and consistent Doctors. Hell, in many ways, Eccleston was much much much better than Tennant.

Damn, sometimes I hate that they started that show again... grumble grumble grumble...

She did grow on me too. Thats one thing I hated about Martha, like 8 episodes into her season as a companion she was all in love with the Doctor so easily and quickly. Hated that.

And who didn't love DoctorDonna?

But he's THE Doctor. When I think of the Doctor, I don't think of the kinda half serious half goofy version Eccleston did, I think of the unbridled rage filled Time Lord who's lost everything and anything he's loved. Or as Marie Antoinette would say "such a lost and lonely little boy".

He's THE Doctor right now, but others feel that THEIR Doctor is Paul McGann or Eccelston or Tom Baker or Peter Davidson, etc.

Don't get me wrong. I love Tennant as The Doctor, but Who is the ONLY show where you can have a revolving cast on the SAME character. Matt Smith is the next one and he certainly won't be the last.

He could have, he chose to quit after 1 season cause he didn't want to be typecast as The Doctor for the rest of his career.

Exactly.. I mean prior to D.W. I've seem him in two things

A) the villain from Gone in 60 Seconds (which was a minor role since he got such little screen time..)

B) the military leader dude from 28 Days Later

sure he's done other stuff recently, he was great as Claude in Heroes but that was a small part in season 1. He was good in The Dark Is Rising but it barely got any attention and who knows how big his part is in the upcoming G.I. Joe movie..

he shoulda stuck with D.W. if he were smart. but alas if he did that we might not ever haven gotten Tennant

Well he's Destro, so I assume he's got a decent part. However this is a GI Joe movie, not anything he's probably going to get his bick American movie break in, sadly.

Also, pertaining to the Jesus comment, Eccleston WAS Jesus, or at least a modern day messiah, the role he took just before Doctor Who. I also think there were stories left to tell with Eccleston's Doctor.

The only thing I ask from Matt Smith is he doesn't try to follow Eccleston's or Tennant's take on the Doctor.
