Why are the Old fashioned donuts called that? They are like 50 years newer than the normal donut...

For me, its all about Tim Hortons' Old Fashioned Plain and Old fashioned glazed. Nothing else. Except around Halloween, when they have the Pumpkin spice donut for a limited time only. That is one hella tasty donut.

My favorite are Tim Horton's chocolate honey glaced with coconut sprinkles on it. MMMMMM
I almost linked a beignet picture from them, for the uninitiated, but my google web search turned up a picture that ended up being 404 on their site, and I didn't feel it was that important to look for a better one.

I use to eat them all the time when I lived in France. Man, their pastries... to die for.
They're pretty easy to make yourself. Joy of Cooking of all things actually has the Cafe du Monde recipe (drinking coffee at work out of my Cafe du Monde cup as I type). Takes like 10 minutes to whip up a batch if you have oil on hand.

OM. Man... I think I'll go to Cafe du Monde before summer starts. They have the best beignets and chicory coffee.
My sister-in-law lives one rank of houses from Lake Pontchartrain. We get to go there and eat nummy stuff frequently! Chicory coffee makes me make funny faces though... I can't stand the stuff.

I have a fond (though slightly hazy) memory of getting in an epic powdered sugar fight at Cafe du Monde when I was about 19.
Also, chicory coffee is awesome when combined with sweetened condensed milk (Vietnamese style).

Either chocolate-glaze from Arnold's... or traditional Finnish donuts:
Especially when served with sima, sweet mead that is a traditional May Day drink.
Mostly, however, I don't eat donuts. For some reason I lost part of my taste for them after I read about their use as a sex toy in one issue of Cosmopolitan. Creative use of a donut indeed...

Until recently, when the light was on you could go in and get a free donut, hot off the line. A Krispy Kreme is pretty good, but a hot fresh Krispy Kreme is orgasmic.

Krispy Kreme was driven out of Edmonton near here by misplaced national fucking pride Canadians have with Tim Horton's. Tim Horton's donuts used to be fantastic but are now a mediocre pale imitation of what they once were.

Man, Krispy Kremes are just tooooo rich for me. I feel like I'm getting diabetes in the process of eating one.
I'll get you next time Lally..... NEXT TIIIIIME!

Oh jiminey crickets Krispy Kremes plain rock. There was one in my old response area, and when my partner and I would get that 4:30 a.m. call we would swing by there when we were done because it was just after the HOT NOW sign came on and before the rush ensued. As we watched those little golden, ring shaped, globules of joy pass on their conveyor on their way to be glazed, my partner says-
"You can just put me on that conveyor belt naked"
"Thanks man- I now have retinal burn on my inner eye."
I don't know what happens to a fresh Krispy Kreme when you bite into it. It just freaking evaporates.
As an officer of the law, I am considered by many to be a true expert in the art of donut eating. I am still fucking pissed that Canadians fell for Tim Horton's pathetic advertising and avoided Krispy Kreme like the plague till they went out of business here. Tim Horton's is fucking garbage next to fresh Krispy Kremes.
