I got a 2DS. Who wants to be on my friend's list?

WHO WANTS TO BE MY FRIEND!?

You want us to be friends with someone who has a 2DS? The 6-year-old's 3DS? No hinge? HINGELESS?!

:p I'm kidding. Though you should start off posting your friend code. And also, the Animal Crossing and Pokemon have a bunch of friend codes, but I'll post mine again here anyway.

Yeah. I don't quite get the hinge-less thing really. But whatever. The Gameboy never had a hinge.
Although I wonder how a game, like Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, would work when a portion of the game requires you to close the DS and open it again.

I doubt they thought of that. I suppose you could try smacking the touch screen and hope the game doesn't check whether the DS goes into sleep mode or not.

Anyway, maybe you want to get to posting your friend code. It won't register unless it's mutual.

Actually that makes a lot of sense. I didn't consider that it just checks to see if it enters sleep mode. The 2DS does have a manual sleep mode button.[DOUBLEPOST=1381985633,1381985280][/DOUBLEPOST]

No 3Ds games as of yet. But not a terrible situation. I bought a $35 e-shop card and started buying a few virtual console games to keep me interested for a while. I bought something called SteamWorld, that looks like it might be fun. Other than that I have Zelda: Links Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, and Super Mario Land 3. I'm a pretty simple minded fellow.

How do you feel about monsters? Either of the variety you hunt, or of the variety that are kept in your pocket?

I watched a quick look of Steam World and it looks pretty damn fun. I meant to pick that one up. I'll have to go to the e-shop and pick it up.

Mario Kart 7. As mentioned, Pokemon.

Luigi's Mansion has great multi-player, but the online lobby is such shit that it's almost impossible to get a full game going.

Kid Icarus Uprising easily has my favorite multi-player on the 3DS, but on the 2DS I think playing it would be hand-cramp city.

L button fires, joystick moves pit, stylus controls aiming. Difficult enough when the touch screen, joystick, and L button are all close to each other, but looks maddening on the 2DS.

The big thing I'm looking forward to for multi-player is the new Super Smash Bros.

I have to admit, the control set-up on the 2DS is really shitty. The point of hand hold systems is that they should fit in your hand exactly like a controller. 2DS feels so awkward and unnatural. I'm hoping I'll get used to it.

Probably for kids it's less of an issue because most controllers/handhelds feel awkward in their little hands.

They p should have put the shoulder buttons on the back and left the joystick down by the touch screen if they were dead set on not having a hinge. The original DS didn't have 3D and needed its buttons away from the top screen, meaning Nintendo has known what to do for nine years and ignored that knowledge.

Though admittedly, shoulder buttons didn't cross my mind when I saw the 2Ds for the first time and even though some game use them frequently, many have them do meaningless things that can be accomplished with the touch screen. They may just not have seen it as important.

I find the normal 3DS a bit small and uncomfortable to hold any time I have to use the L button, circle pad and the stylus on the touch screen at the same time. My big mitts just don't have enough to hold on to, and after awhile I start to feel it.

I feel like the original 3DS is smaller than a DS Lite.

So like a good American, I super-sized mine :p.

I have tiny girl hands, so the 3ds is great for me. :p

My husband has freaskish giant hands and went the supersize route.

So how's Steamworld Dig? What do you in it? I saw the video and it looked cool.

I haven't played much of this. I played a little today, but only enough to see that essentially it's kind of a mix between minecraft and a puzzle game. So far all you do is dig. You have a main mine shaft, that has various valuable minerals scattered about, and you're trying to dig a path to it. In the beginning this proves slightly challenging, because you have to do it so that you can reach the mineral perfectly, and not in a position where you have to jump to get it, because you can't perform the mine action as you jump. I'm sure that this will involve a power upgrade somewhere in the game which will allow you to circumvent that minor detail.

Played a bit more Steamworld. It's a fun little game. It's a 2D mining game where you dig through various pathways attempting to find minerals and hidden areas. As you progress you can find or unlock various new abilities and gadgets that typically help you dig deeper or access difficult to get to areas. I especially enjoy the steam-powered equipment you gain access to, which require water to perform. You can fill up your water tanks by finding pools of water inside the mine.

I traded a couple things to Gamestop so I could get a 3ds eshop card and bought this. I've been eager for a decent platformer-style game and New Super Mario Bros 2 bores the shit out of me. I've only played 40 minutes so far, but it's a lot of fun. I like that the mine's layout will be different each time so it'll have some replay value.

Didn't know about the water stuff. I'll keep that in mind for later since I found a pool already.
