DVD Rip Software

Hey, all,

I'm in the process of making backups of my DVDs of "How I Met Your Mother", and realized I don't have any ripping software. After a cursory Google search, I thought I'd ask you guys: what's the best free DVD ripping software, or are there any you'd recommend?

Thanks!

Well, free ripping is easy. It's beating the copy protection that's hard. Were I you I'd pony up the dough to buy AnyDVD. It sits in your tray and automatically strips the protection off so you can make a backup using ANY ripping software.

I use a combination of DVD Decrypter and Handbrake, and that works well enough for me. Keep in mind that DVD Decrypter violates the DMCA by circumventing copyright protection and is thus illegal in the United States, so I'm assuming that no one should link to it, or to any other software that removes encryption. It's available from multiple locations, but I'm not sure where to get it that's sure to be free from malware.

i'll second dvd decrypter and handbrake if you're on windows. if you're not on windows handbrake with vlc like covar said.

I used to just back up my DVD's via downloading rips. Just putting another option out there, it depends on your download speed, but it's easier and faster for me to download a DVD then to rip it.
