so, we had elections this last week! fun. well, not for our labour government. very much not fun for them. ten cabinet ministers have resigned in the last two weeks, they lost control of pretty much all the council seats they were hanging on to to the conservative party in the local election.
and on top of that, the BNP got two seats in the EU election.
rly: way to go yorkshire. you bunch of goddamn IDIOTS. electing a straight up neo nazi to represent the UK. 
on the bright side, congratulations to sweden and the pirate party for getting a seat!

It could have been worse here in the Netherlands. Sure, people say Wilders won, but his party isn't the biggest one and they don't have any partnerships with other European parties, so they'll probably be very uninfluential. Most of the dutch seats went to pro-Europe parties and our green party actually went from 2 to 3 seats

Oh please don't take what I said to be anything like that (if this was meant at me), I think it's horrific that anyone could vote for these people, and I think any attention they get is a bad, bad thing. My point was more that their political influence isn't yet enough to have a direct impact. In Finland, we had Timo Soini of the Perussuomalaiset ('Basic Finns') Party get elected. Like I said in the rant thread, electing a candidate whose slogan was "Where there's EU, there's a problem" to the Parliament is like picking a soccer player who likes to kick his teammates in the balls.
Luckily, he's the only one of his party who got elected - out of 18 MEPs Finland gets to send
And to counter him, there's the unaligned Mitro Repo, who is generally thought to be a decent, progressive fellow, even though he was denied the right to continue his clerical duties for the duration of his Parliament membership by the Orthodox Church.

I voted D'66, which is part of the 'Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe' power block. I would've voted VVD, which is more liberal, but after I found out they were in the same block as D'66 I figured I'd just vote for them.
