(I searched for this topic, so if one already exists, I apologize.)

Anyone around here play EvE Online? If so: hello from a asteroid mining carebear! :)

I've been playing since 2007 and have started writing fan fiction for it.

For those unfamiliar... Gen-tle-men! Be-hold!:

My EvE corp's website (always looking to recruit new members): http://www.eegcorp.info/

My fan fiction (posted under the name Sern Tanalon): http://www.eegcorp.info/php/articles.php

I use to. I gave my account to a friend who sold my character for like 500 billion isk :) (it was a 3 year old account with carrier skills.

Basically what Math242 says. I've tried it a number of times. Even while playing other games (mining isn't a very demanding profession), but I just can't get into it.

However, looking at that promo, it really makes me want to jump back in, but I know the truth.. that promo is just hype.

I played for a long time, but eventually I realized I was mostly logging on to set new skills to train. Most of my character 'development' happened when i was offline. I was mostly 'leveling' without even playing. How dull is that?

that does have a plus and minus to it.

Basically when you do play, it is pretty much either crafting, fighting, or making money (via mining, crafting, delivering, or fighting) Some people actually like that.

Of course there are other players' camp where they want to see "improvement" on the character level while playing (i.e. time invested) EVE is not like that. You can "level" your character (it is a skill base system for those not familiar with it) while offline. I was doing that for 3 years. Granted it was kinda fun to take out my huge mining ship and stripmine an asteroid field.

I loved EVE,but it was kind of monotonus. Take Ship from point a to point b. ,shoot pirates (pew pew pew) and return.
Concept is super though, but it's a tad to slow moving, and akin to a second job if you take it a tad too serious.
Also they nerfed the character creator.A year ago or so,you could customize the starter skillset better then now. Now you get Templates that dont really show what skills your character has at the beginning, just a vague hint.

Now you don't get skills at the beginning, you get a 100% training speed bonus instead.

The only difference between the different races is you get Racial Frigate and the appropriate small gun type.

EVE is a PvP/market game with some PvE content bolted on. If all you're doing is mining/ratting, you will be bored.

I think the reason I've stuck with it for 2 years is being in corps with other fun people. I'm sure I wouldn't stick around if I was playing solo. The points raised so far are good ones, I think. But of course, sometimes it comes down to a matter of taste and play-style.

Even if you're not into it, though, you gotta admit it's a very pretty game, and CCP has been getting much better at making trailers:

How do you lose 100 bil in 5 ships? You lost multiple supercaps in one night?
