I'll admit, I was a fan in my younger years and the animated film based on her books was a childhood favorite.

Never saw the fim but read all of her books as a youth. I recall her being old when I read her books (20 years ago). So long, Anne!

This saddens me greatly.

One of my all-time favorite authors. Great characterization and world-building. She will be missed, but never forgotten.

I read the first two books and couldn't really get into it, but regardless, it's sad to lose an icon of the fantasy genre.

Dammit, quite literally my favorite author. I'll miss her and her books.

(Especially since the later novels by Todd McCaffrey can only be called ascended fanfiction)

Never read her stuff but always wanted to. As a kid I remember spending lots of time just looking at the different covers of the books.

Dragonriders of Pern was one of the first major SF/Fantasy series I ever really got into, and was my favorite when I was in middle school. This makes me sad as well.

Aw, I read one of her books as a kid, and wanted to read more, but had no idea how to find them all in the correct order.

You mean publication or chronological? Because the time travel aspect makes the latter a bit tricky.

I've read many (but nowhere near all) of her books. I lost her trail right after reading The White Dragon around 1989. It took until I discovered The Ship Who Sang in 2005 or so for me to pick up her books again. I could swear I ran into her when I was still in attend-all-the-Cons! mode in college. Good times.

I did not know there was an animated film.

I think the best story I've heard regarding her is that, when a bunch of fanficfolk tried to tell her how her canon should be written (because they had embellished it during her writing dry spell), she gave them all a huge middle finger and wrote what she wanted anyway, tellnig them that it's her universe and she'll write about it however she damn well pleases.*

*Possibly apocryphal, but no less impressive.

I'm trying to re-find the movie but not having any luck. I know it was done in the 80s and in Western style animation. That's all I have to go on at the moment.

I've heard similar stories, such as her insistence that Pern would never have an organized religion.
