Let's post awesome game music... and their fan renditions of them that DON'T suck!

Lufia!

Chrono Trigger

Goddamn, everything is awesome. Even this failed Resurrection project...

FUCK YES LUFIA

Sinistral theme kicks my ass every time, it's so good.

Also, obviously, Final Fantasy. 4, 6, 7 and 10 have the best music by far. 7's is easily the most iconic, but I still hold 4's Battle With The Four Fiends close to my heart.

The terrifying truth of the Four Fiends (spoilers within):

I also love Big Blue from F-Zero, as done by the Minibosses (only vid I could find).

Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross have already been mentioned, so despite being my favourites by far, I won't repost them.

Super Mario Galaxy
had awesome music.

And how has no one mentioned Katamari Damacy yet?

The whole Donkey Kong Country trilogy had great music too.

I also adore Nobuo Uematsu, and could probably pick 4-5 songs of his from each game he's composed.

However, one underappreciated song of his:

FFX has an amazing score. I'd put it up there with VII's easily. It's especially beautiful (as is VII's) if you listen to the piano versions.

This song never fails to get my heart pumping in Half-Life and Half-Life 2:

Perfect music for blasting headcrab zombies!

I'm all about OCRemix's stuff. You guys should check them out, their Halo stuff is da bomb dot net. Pure video game stuff I'm a fan of Halo. Also, NESKimos and Minibosses rock. Here are two random favourites straight from games: and yes, I know the second isn't technically "Video Game" music but still:

My favorite RPG companies also have made my favorite game music:
Square-Enix

Man, I'd have to go digging to see if I enjoyed Lunar music, it's been so long.

But in the meantime, Earthbound awesomeness! One of my favorite overall soundtracks.

And the song to top all songs of this game! Gets stuck in my head constantly to this day, and will give me goosebumps thanks to the final battle scenes and ending.

I'm all about OCRemix's stuff.
Speaking of OCRemix, here are a few favourites of mine...

From Chrono Trigger:

Ruined World (Eternal Derelict) - an arrangement of the overworld music from the post apocalyptic future in 2300 AD. One of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJTRq56TbH8[/ame]

Black Wind Rising - a kickass rearrangement of Magus' theme. Intro is a little synthy, but still a great track.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRU_9ufkGj4[/ame]

Forever Until Tomorrow - a vocal remix of the 1000 AD theme. This is by the same artist as the above track, although in a completely different style.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5P2vrkV0ETw[/ame]

Running After You - this is based on the Distant Promise theme from Radical Dreamers, Chrono Trigger's oft-forgotten sequel. The theme was also rearranged and used as the Another World theme in Chrono Cross.

Now a few from the Donkey Kong Country series.

Beneath The Surface - based on the Aquatic Ambience track I posted earlier. Incredibly relaxing. This is actually from Kong In Concert, one of OCRemix's early project albums which rearranged every track from DKC. Dave Wise (the composer of the original track) actually heard this track, and enjoyed it... so much so that he's apparently involved somewhat in the upcoming DKC2 project.

Thrash The Plank - a kickass version of the final boss theme from DKC. Again, from Kong in Concert.

... That's probably enough for one post.

Also, this seems like a good time to dig this back up again:

This is my favourite thread right now, and Reboneer my favourite poster.

Thank you for introducing me to OCremix.

I must contribute!

Here are some video game remixes/raps that these two guys Duane and Brand0 have done. I've posted the videos before I love 'em.

Donkey Kong Country 2 had the best ambient music out of any game of the 16-bit era

Curse of Monkey Island had some outstanding music

I concur on the Monkey Island music (shocker).

Also, I'm cut off at work, but has anyone heard the remake of You Were Always On My Mind playing in the background of the Silent Hill: Shattered Memories preview? As if I needed another reason to want that one intensely.

oh, and my favorite of all time...protoman's theme :

and the final song from Links Awakening on gameboy. damn but that was haunting

Ballad of the Windfish was remixed for Super Smash Brothers: Brawl and put on the disk, but like a few other songs (like Rose Woods from Super Mario RPG), it wasn't activated in the final copy.
