Final Fantasy XI

Yes, yes "XI is teh suxxorz blah blah blah."

I've gone a few years without now, probably haven't played since 2007 or 2008, and now I'm feeling called back into it. I've got the old install disk running right now. I want to level either a dragoon or a paladin.

Anybody else still happen to play, or interested in giving it a go? It's 10 bucks on steam for the core game and all expansions, and last I played, passed level 10 it's nearly impossible to level without a group.

FFXI is the ex-girlfriend that you long to take back, but then you remember all she ever did was punch you in the face, cheat on you, and steal your money.

I'm seeing some remarkable improvement from last I played. It seems now monsters can randomly drop treasure chests. You have to solve a math puzzle to open one, but it has actually helpful items, potions and antidotes n shit. And they can also give you "temp" items, they'll leave your inventory if you zone but it seems helpful if you're staying and leveling in one place.

And in some areas you can now get a boost to your character's movement speed. Not like chocobo speed, but fast enough that walking back and forth for the first missions and quests doesn't feel so god awefully dragged out anymore.

Hmm.. But it's still party-based, and everyone is power-levelled nowadays. There aren't really any "actually" low-level players anymore. Unless it's changed.
