Lol, the Panthers finally get a first round draft pick (and number 1 to boot) and their only hope isn't going to participate. I swear the Panthers couldn't be more fucked if they tried.

Wow, that is a bit dumb. A NFL signing bonus will pay for all the education that you can stand.

A co-worker (teacher) was asked by a student if she felt that if given the chance should her son (linebacker at Notre Dame) should drop out to join the NFL. "With a million dollars, he can finish a degree at any time. The NFL does not always ask again."

He stayed his four years, and had a fairly long NFL career, and one Pro-Bowl appearance.

I wonder what they are going to do about the draft considering one of the biggest sticking points are the salaries of rookies. They will probably still hold the draft as normal, but I think that the players drafted will not see the kind of huge paydays rookies have enjoyed in the last few years.

Frankly, I think they should throw out all signing bonuses and not allow contract re-negotiations until after one full year of play.

And Luck will probably be the #1 pick and Carolina needs a dynamic QB very badly.

The draft is one thing I think the NBA does right. Every draft position has a set salary amount established before hand for rookies. First round is an automatic 3-year deal, second round is a one-year deal. No holdouts, no lengthy negotiations, no overpaying slot, no going on the cheap, no avoiding players because they'll ask for too much money.

And yet there's a good chance that there will be no NFL next year. He stays in school, he'll definitely play football, earn his degree, and, baring a freak injury, still be a very high draft pick when the Lockout ends.

Andrew is unique in that the NFL needs him far more than he needs them. Looks at what he has to live up to. Father was a Rhodes Scholar. League president. President of a championship-winning franchise. AD of a school that aspires to national championships in multiple sports (and has realistic chances of achieving them). The NFL does not always ask again? Neither does Stanford.

If there's no deal imminent, I suspect the NFLPA will decertify right before the deadline and have the players sue the league en masse.
