Ok, so.. I only have time to devote to one MMO in my free time.

And I can't pick which.

WoW is.. kinda run its course for me. I got my guy to 80, only took me 6 freakin months but I did it. I'd like to get into 5v5 Arenas and I'm like halfway to getting my pvp gear/setup but.. I dont want to grind in WoW anymore.. I just dont. Heroic after Heroic getting PvE gear just so I could comfortably get pvp gear, and I really dont want to grind it. I mean, the rest of my pvp gear would be gotten through honor points/arena points since I've already gotten the best emblem gear I can get (minus frost emblems cause im not in a raiding guild) but alliance on my battlegroup sucks.. we're insanely outnumbered by horde and we never can win AV let alone WG on my server..

STO.. is interesting. It has some flaws yes and I really want to support it but I'm afraid of sinking my money in it. It just seems like EVE-Light.. some basics of space combat, with a dash of ground/third person combat for variety. Again it breaks down into the holy trinity of healer/tank/dps. I really want to support it and pray Cryptic can change it.. but I'm fearful they can't..

EVE.. it takes forever to get going but its UO in space. And I love hardcore pvp. I love consequences, and repercussions to my actions. I love how the server is player run in terms of player politics, guilds/fleets/corps whatever they are called being created and broken down, backstabbing and betrayal you name it.. BUT it takes soooo long to get competitive :( I'd sink my money into it in a moment if I thought I could say, become pvp ready in a couple weeks versus a year or so (and yea.. I know I'd never match up to people who've been playing for 4+ years but still..)

So which of the 3 do I go with? STO was my "cant wait for" MMO prior to WoW and WoW was a time killer, but I've invested so much into it ;\ but I'm so sick of orcs and swords and magic..I want stars and galaxies but not at the cost of 2 months to get a better weapon for my ship or gameplay thats a cakewalk.

HELP!

You're bored of WoW, you don't think STO will turn out any good, and you don't want to sink the time into EVE.

So your options are basically disinterested, bad, and lengthy. Why play any of them then?

True dat. I'd suggest ditching all three and getting Left 4 Dead 2.

MMOs are in a sad state at the moment. It's really WoW or nothing. Trust me, I've "been around the block" recently, there isn't anything to satisfy the craving and it's driving me mad.

I've been playing nothing but PSP, L4D2 and TF2 for the past few months.

Pretty much this. City of Heroes is lots of fun if you like customization and a different, less loot driven style of game but that's really the only alternative out there that I can recommend... and honestly, if you want to try CoH, I'd advise waiting until Going Rogue comes out so you don't need to buy the expansion later on. Every other game is ether crap or experiencing problems at the moment.

Weren't you singing the praises of Darkfall a while ago? Whatever happened to that? It's not my type of game, so I've never tried it myself, but I read about it on forums from time to time and for people who love full loot pvp seem to be enjoying it very much. Also it seems like they're improving and adding a lot at a very rapid pace which is good.

I agree with Shego, post-wow MMOs have been disappointing to say the least. AoC and WAR were both big buckets of fail. Aion is OK but really nothing exceptional. LOTRO is doing well for itself but it's really a PvE game so I wouldn't recommend it to you.

There's only been three MMOs that have ever really held my attention for the long term, FFXI, WoW, and LOTRO. But right now I'm not playing any. I am just waiting for FFXIV. . If they can keep everything that was awesome about FFXI, while fixing the things that killed the game for me (mostly the MASSIVE downtime and messed-up economy) I figure it'll be my virtual home for a long while. If any company can bring the genre out of this rut, a powerhouse like Square-Enix can.

I still plan to try Darkfall, at some point. My gaming rig atm is my laptop, which handles WoW fine, and STO runs ok, but Darkfall, not so much. I bought it and attempted to get it to run, I got horrible frame rates so my free month just went by without ever really playing it and I canceled my sub. I plan to go back and try it again when I get some spare cash to build a new gaming desktop, hopefully before summer.

While the story of WoW is great (I actually really enjoyed the story aspect, I still watch the CGI trailers and ingame cutscene movies time to time) the game play is just.. UGH. The only reason I've even played WoW was to tide myself over, and there are 11 million people playing so I never ran short of other people to play with. Ironically, I rarely grouped.. From 1 to 80, I grouped for maybe 10 levels of that, being a Dwarf Warrior, even as a tank spec, getting grps was HARD before the new LFG tool.. ugh..

There's been a couple decent MMO's since WoW but you're comparing them to WoW, WoW simply caters to far too many people plus they had a built in fanbase partially from the Warcraft franchise already

I was hoping for STO but its beta has been dreadful. Worse than the norm. The game is unplayable and it's a shame as THIS is the time where they should be selling the game to people. I went from HELLS YA to a thread from I WANT TO BE REPLACED BY JAY LENO.

I loved LOTRO, but I'm one of the many that suffers from "hitching" so I've had to leave it behind. It was a fantastic alternative to WoW. I'd recommend Aion to you as it's very catered to your style of play but unfortunately it requires a high powered system even at low specs.

I'm gonna have to echo @lien and recommend that you look into some solid non-mmo games.

MMO's are killing PC gaming, not anything else.
How? MMOs and RTS are the only two genres that still haven't really migrated to consoles. FPS games, once a PC staple are becoming more and more console-centric as are other genres of games. MMOs will probably stay put on PC for the most part for a good while to come, so I'd say they're helping to keep PC gaming alive really.

I may end up choosing WoW or EVE..

The instancing in STO is getting on my nerves and practically any discussion or requests to change it on the official forums gets squashed FAST, threads locked, deleted, users banned, all for simply in a non-flaming non-trolling way of asking for a change to the game..

If the devs can't handle the criticism and want to be forum nazis.. Im not sure its a game I want to play

Too bad thanks to X-Server dungeon queing, WoW is getting that way too Mav. Some people never leave Dalaran for weeks.

Maybe but in WoW theres at least an option to walk across a continent without having to load zone after zone after zone, its all one big perpetual world. So far in STO every area of the game has it's own instance with a cap of 50 people :(
