EVE.. it takes forever to get going but its UO in space. And I love hardcore pvp. I love consequences, and repercussions to my actions. I love how the server is player run in terms of player politics,
Weren't you singing the praises of Darkfall a while ago? Whatever happened to that? It's not my type of game, so I've never tried it myself, but I read about it on forums from time to time and for people who love full loot pvp seem to be enjoying it very much. Also it seems like they're improving and adding a lot at a very rapid pace which is good.
I agree with Shego, post-wow MMOs have been disappointing to say the least. AoC and WAR were both big buckets of fail. Aion is OK but really nothing exceptional. LOTRO is doing well for itself but it's really a PvE game so I wouldn't recommend it to you.
There's only been three MMOs that have ever really held my attention for the long term, FFXI, WoW, and LOTRO. But right now I'm not playing any. I am just waiting for FFXIV. . If they can keep everything that was awesome about FFXI, while fixing the things that killed the game for me (mostly the MASSIVE downtime and messed-up economy) I figure it'll be my virtual home for a long while. If any company can bring the genre out of this rut, a powerhouse like Square-Enix can.[/QUOTE]
I still plan to try Darkfall, at some point. My gaming rig atm is my laptop, which handles WoW fine, and STO runs ok, but Darkfall, not so much. I bought it and attempted to get it to run, I got horrible frame rates so my free month just went by without ever really playing it and I canceled my sub. I plan to go back and try it again when I get some spare cash to build a new gaming desktop, hopefully before summer.
While the story of WoW is great (I actually really enjoyed the story aspect, I still watch the CGI trailers and ingame cutscene movies time to time) the game play is just.. UGH. The only reason I've even played WoW was to tide myself over, and there are 11 million people playing so I never ran short of other people to play with. Ironically, I rarely grouped.. From 1 to 80, I grouped for maybe 10 levels of that, being a Dwarf Warrior, even as a tank spec, getting grps was HARD before the new LFG tool.. ugh..
There's been a couple decent MMO's since WoW but you're comparing them to WoW, WoW simply caters to far too many people plus they had a built in fanbase partially from the Warcraft franchise already
