They killed Charlie and replaced him with a shape-shifter.

What does that have to do with flares and skulls holding flares?

Am I the only person that absolutely hates fringe? I mean, I like a lot of bad/predicable/silly shows, but I got throguh about 3/4 of the last saeson, and I said to myself "Why the fuck am I still watching this shit!?"

I really jsut do not get the love for the show. I guess I had too high of hopes for it.

Fringe Season 2 premier.

I didn't like it at first but by the end of the first season I have really grown to love it as a nice follow up to the X-Files.

Which this episode really played up. Very nice.

Fringe Season 2 premier.

I liked it all the way through the first 1/4-1/3 of the season, and then stopped watching for some reason.

Maybe I'll get back into it at some point, but it just isn't my 'gotta watch' shows.

Episode 2 is online.

If cross dimensional travel screws with a person as much as it does Olivia, then it explains a lot about Walter. This episode's freaky crap with the tunneling super human reminds me of that X-Files episode with the hillbilly freaks and "Tremors" rolled into one. Just no Burt Gummer... which is a shame as even Walter is no substitute. It wasn't one of the more memorable episodes, but I'm happy to see Peter and Walter bonding.

"Finally some good news.! I hope we can dig them up. I haven't had any bodies to examine. Seven missing persons... no bodies"
-Walter

He actually was fired from the show, Charlie that is. The only reason he is still around is because they had the season planned out, and quickly did his shots.

He was a good supporting character, and I liked him, but something was off about him.

But, this show, I love.

The series finally has come back after a couple of month hiatus. The episode "Peter" is online and it was a strong reminder why I love this show.
I love the retro opening credits to go with the flashback theme of this episode.

LOVED the retro opening title. What a great episode. This show just keeps getting better and better and it's not canceled yet so... yay!

I really only picked up Fringe this season, so it kind of baffles me still (really need to go back and fill in all the random episodes I watched on Hulu :p), but Walter is so awesome yet so... not a good guy at the same time. -_- He's trying to make up for it, but DAMN at the last episode.

Olivia. In the Lab. With the Revolver.: The Fringe team investigates a possible murderer who is transferring his cancer to other people via touch.
A salright episode. But nothing like the last one. This one felt more like a build up for something bigger coming.
Sometimes these episodes with Cortexifan subjects feel like excuses to have the Fringe universes version of Super Heroes or Mutants. The only one of them that I've liked was the episode with the pyro-kinetic sisters, but only because it strongly pushed the story along when Agent Harris turned out to be dirty (which was quite a thrill to watch him burn). I don't see why they need to all have different powers. The thought that one drug can have multiple different effects on different people seems to take away the fun of the series which is full of fast-aging super babies, radiation stealing alien shadows, and a chemical that will change you into a rampaging monster. If the solution to every mystery starts becoming "He was a Cortexifan subject" then the series is going to become much less entertaining for me.
I've also noticed that the cliffhanger endings have become less powerful. Specially compared to the first season. When they end the episode on " I have to tell Peter that he's from an alternate universe" it's a bit too Soap Opera and less thrilling.
Minor gripes. I think this was the first episode in a while that I wasn't too thrilled about. Looking forward to next week though.

Ah, yeah, they have to be careful about making things to easy (I worked on that! I knew that person, etc, etc) for the fringe crew, but I really think this was an episode of escalation leading to the end of the season. Craps starting to hit the fan. Or rather, Walter and Bell's chickens are coming home to roost.

So speaking of needing to catch up on Season 1 of Fringe, Amazon has Season 1 on DVD for $17.99 right now! Yay.

Wow. That one was excellent.

Wyrminarrd

I dont know, I thought it was rather silly that the guy would go to all this trouble and then waste it like that.

Other then that this was a very good episode.

#29

Dei

Dei

How did he waste it? He decided that Walter was right, and that he didn't want to be burdened with the responsibility of changing time, so he chose instead to die with the one he loved and have one more chance to tell her that he loved her. Maybe it's because I'm a girl, but I think it's very sweet. :p

I don't buy Walters speech about consequences and God punishing you for over stepping your place by using science. There wouldn't be any reason for Peter Wellers character to feel bad about what he did, in the end his method would have resulted in no one dying and he would be able to have a live with his love. Maybe its just the guy in me but I'd rather have my time travelling girl friend pull me out of the car rather then just tell me that she loved me :) Plus I kind of felt that it was out of character for him to do this, he clearly didn't believe in a higher force.

#32

Dei

Dei

Regardless of talks of God, the point was that pulling his girlfriend from the car could have repercussions that he would never know, and he'd question himself everyday about how the world would be different if she had died. Just think of say... "The Butterfly Effect", where everytime Ashton Kutcher tried to make something better he only made it worse because of the unforseeable repercussions. Walter fucked up the balance between the two worlds pulling Peter across, and then fucked up a whole bunch of other kids to try to fix it, not to mention everything else.

My biggest complaint about this episode, is that I definitely kept my eyes closed during the part before the last jump. Ewwww implantation.

I imagine the conversation will go a lot like:

You stole my son!
I had to! He was going to die. You had the cure but you missed it. I saved him!!
You stole my son! ARRRGHGHGHGH!!!!

Walternate is a total dick though. Whatever happened to him in the years that Peter was gone has made him a cold and vengeful monster. So much so he's willing to plug his own son into a machine that will destroy the world.

The major problem with any series as good as Fringe is that when the cliffhanger season finale hits it's just 10x as hard to wait for the next season.

#39

Dei

Dei

Of course you realize that Walternate is going to have Olivia so freaked out, and stressed, and scared, that she's just going to trigger her powers and cross over in the first ep of season 3. ;)

which will then of course turn into...

I'm the real Olivia, no I'M the real Olivia

and then I will be sad.

#40

Espy

Nah, i don't see them going that route, except in maybe a tongue in cheek way.

I finally watched the finale on Hulu. I'm totally in love with this show right now, and can't wait for season 3
I'd called Walternate being a villain in the series as soon as you found out that Peter was from the other side. It's weird that I called that, but didn't see the Olivia swap coming, even though it was telegraphed from a mile away.

Caught up on the finale last night. Good episode.
I doubt they would go this route but the thought occurred to me that it might be a cool twist....

Walternate totally fucks up Olivia. Drives her insane (I would go insane in that kind of captivity) and she basically turns villain herself. Meanwhile Olivianate(?) slowly comes around to seeing our side as the positive one, stops working against them and rather with them. We've got a team switch going on and major conflict and story line could be built out of that. Just a poorly worded speculation on how it could turn out.

I like and dislike that idea. First of all it generally is a pretty cool idea and definitely a twist I've never seen. I thought, after seeing the episode, that it was likely that Olivianate will turn good based on a few elements. 1) Walternate has been consitantly lying to them about the other side. While Walter may be responsible for the collapse of their universe he certainly isn't maliciously trying to destroy it. Olivianate will catch on fairly quickly that her doppleganger is just as dedicated to helping people as she is. 2) Olivanate is going to soon meet Oliva's sister and niece. Since Olivianate's sister died when she was very young it's bound to be an emotional moment for her.
The idea that our Oliva might turn evil is also a very interesting idea and would definitely bring the story full circle in a creative way. The only downside about that is it effectively undoes the character of Oliva and resets everything to status quo. If we have to wait another full season for Olivia and Peter to have a fling, after they made such progress in the finale, I'm going to have a coniption. Plus we'll always know that Olivianate isn't Oliva, even if she replaces her on the series. It's like being flashed the bird by the show's writers.

Dei

Call it the romantic in me, but if Peter can't figure out they have the wrong Olivia pretty quick I'm going to get angry.

Oh man I have to wait until Tuesday for the finale! All your spoiler tags are looking at me, burning into my very soul.
