Fucking Virus!!!

Got a virus. Calling itself Vista anti-spyware 2011. And I have no idea how to remove it. Tried googling but almist every search wants me to download a program. Which I can't because the virus or whatever won"t let me access the net.

Posting this from my phone. Can't go to sleep until this is solved. Really hope someone's up.

Dunno if this is real and/or effective, but here are some manual removal insructions I found:

To remove Vista Antispyware 2011, you must first stop any Vista Antispyware 2011 processes that are running in your computer's memory. To stop all Vista Antispyware 2011 processes, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Windows Task Manager. Click on the"Processes" tab, search for Vista Antispyware 2011, then right-click it and select"End Process" key.

To delete Vista Antispyware 2011 registry keys, open the Windows Registry Editor by clicking on the Windows"Start" button and selecting"Run." Type "regedit" into the box and click "OK." Once the Registry Editor is open, search for the registry key"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Vista Antispyware 2011." Right-click this registry key and select "Delete."

Finally, to completely get rid of Vista Antispyware 2011, you must manually remove other Vista Antispyware 2011 files. These Vista Antispyware 2011 files can be in the form of EXE, DLL, LSP, TOOLBAR, BROWSER HIJACK, and/or BROWSER PLUGIN. For example, Vista Antispyware 2011 might create a file like
%PROGRAM_FILES%\Vista Antispyware 2011\Vista Antispyware 2011.exe. Locate and remove these files.

Not working. For one, even after stopping the process, it pops up again when I open regedit. Even after closibg then, there's no folder by that name in the registry.

Cleared. Friend of mine suggested System Restore with an earlier update. Seemed to have done the trick.

Anyone have suggestions for a good protection from this shit?

We have dealt with this stuff at work. Our usual tactic is to boot into safe mode then use msconfig to kill any suspicious processes, run anti-spyware programs like Malware bytes and CCleaner, uninstall whatever suspicious programs we can find, etc.

Just a note for next time or anyone else with the same issue.

malwarebytes usually gets rid of that crap. it's the only program I know that can get ride of the windows security suite virus

If you manage to get a virus using Microsoft Security Essentials, Firefox and No Script, I'd be shocked.

Has anyone ever worked with F-Secure's Rescue CD? (here)

It seems like an interesting concept -- it boots to Linux, updates virus definitions, and the scans the computer. It is set up to do this almost automatically.

System Restore has been a godsend for me once or twice. Spybot's nanny-function (clearance prior to changes) has helped too. Spybot has blocked/warned me of a few viruses before they got in my computer.

I recently used AVG's version of that on a USB key. Have BIOS boot the USB stick, and away it goes. It works about as well as the virus scanner itself does, and AVG isn't the bees knees in that category, but for trivial problems it works well enough.

Malwarebytes is my friend. Make sure it is updated, and boot to safe mode. Do a scan in safe mode. Very few crapware has made it past that.
