I can't believe there still exist people who think they can get away with plagiarism in this day and age. 20, 30 years ago... sure. But in the information age? All it'd take would be ONE guy somewhere in New Jersey or something to notice the similarities and post them in his MySpace.

I don't see why people are upset with this. This is standard shit in comics.

C'mon he's a real artist, Liefield himself taught him the biz. And his diploma does not look at all like a oil change coupon.

At least he's not tracing porn...

I am sad to agree with this. Granted his plagiarism and copying is much more blatant, but odds are most of the current comic artists are practically tracing celebrity faces. I can't tell you how many times Norman Osborn has been Tommy Lee Jones with a perm.

I can see if the art is copied/redrawn, but the script? That is a bit much.

Did you read the circled dialogue? It's pretty much word for word.

I did... I was commenting on that it is common to see "similar" pictures, but the script... is a bit much (pure plagiarism) I mean if he change up the words or even wrote new dialogue, he could have gotten away "maybe".

Ahh, I see what you were saying now.

I guess my issue here, though, is that he didn't just "take inspiration," he practically traced the pictures. I mean, even the lines around the mouths to show lips, and the eye shapes/hair shapes (something generally pretty unique to an artist in manga) are almost identical. I can't believe he thought nobody would say something.

Yea. In this particular case, it looks like he pretty much trace the picture. I am sure if he redraw it and look similar with unique dialogue, he could have gotten away, but this particular case, looks like just copy everything.

If he had redrawn it it wouldn't have been a problem in the first place...

From what I'm gathering, Tite Kubo, the manga-ka of BLEACH is...well both incredibly pissed and dismayed. Angry because someone would blatantly rip him off like that and dismayed because some rich American kid is now calling himself a Manga-ka

What makes an author's written word more sacred than an artist's images?

I think the idea was that he did both.

I have often said that Artists don't steal or plagiarize, they 'pay homage.' But this does seem to cross a line.

Even if it was meant to pay homage, there's a certain subtlety of craft that's missing here. So even if the moron had honest intentions, it means he's not refined his art enough to do himself justice.

Again, that's best case scenario. In reality he's probably just a stupid thief.
