I believe I have told this story before (in fact I'm sure!) but I'm telling it again for history's sake.
I used to do stand-up. Nothing much, just open mics and stuff like that, although I did appear at the local Funny Bone. I had been approached by a comedy group that wanted me to join, but it would have meant traveling to other cities and actually "touring". Since I was married and had 2 small kids, I turned down the offer. I've never regretted giving up my dream for my family - this isn't a pity me type of post. But the kids are older and we're more secure.
This coming Tuesday I'm going to go to a local dive that does open mic nights on Tuesdays. I'm going to check it out & see what I think. If I like it I'm going to restarting my dream on Tuesday, August 16.
I'll be sure to get a video of it for you knuckleheads.

Don't be afraid to poke fun at yourself. I hear that always works with the crowds.

Yay, time for jokes about Herbert Hoover, the Great War, and that new-fangled raggy-time music.
Yo mama so old, ... (insert anything about Dave here)
But I do love stand up comedy. What kind of material do you use (like current news, about yourself, or just random stuff)?

I tend to go into absurdities. I used to do political stuff, but it doesn't hold up well at all. I mean, I could still tell my Kevorkian jokes but I doubt anyone would get it.
Oh come on Kevorkian jokes never die (unless assisted of course)

In this case it was about the crash of TWA flight 800. One of the pilots was named Ralph Kevorkian. I just thought that was a bad name to have as your pilot.
