GOP wants to defund poison control centers

Clicky. (via Little Green Footballs)

There's only one explanation for this absurdity. Someone's corporate master is in the funeral business, and they have a surplus of children's coffins they need to unload.

Well, clearly, with the increased births, they need something to kill off those kids so we don't get overpopulated.

Yeah, I mentioned this in the Gas Bandit thread. The total savings are likely to be minuscule, while the human life costs will be very high.

Given the GOP's lack of understanding of the implications of not having preventative care, plus a total lack of understanding of what Planned Parenthood actually does, this is not really surprising...

On a side note, it's so weird that LGF is now (mostly) rational and reasoned.

This is just embarassing. As a staunch fiscal conservative this crap is really bothering me. IT IS OK TO SPEND MONEY TO MAKE MONEY. FFS. I don't know how else to say it. Spending isn't inherently bad. Its wasteful spending that is bad. There is a HUGE difference. And this, CLEARLY, isn't wasteful spending seeing as it actually saves money.

There is simply no excuse for this low level of financial education in so called fiscal conservatives.

Fuck it. I have no words for this one. I can't even fathom what the perceived benefit of unfunding this one is.

But we need to save money!!
lets slash budget on education! k-12 needs less money! Lets cut tuition assistance (yea it is happening that is why our colleges are doing 10-15% budget cut)
and... lets cut preventitive care!
It makes so much sense now (my head hurts)

I still can't believe that we are still trying to support Trickle On Economics after all these years.

I doubt that these governments are going to roll back any tax cuts for the wealthy or the corporations.

I assume you meant Trickle Down economics (right?)

That's not nearly as clear cut as this. I don't agree with certain aspects of trickle down economics, but I do endorse the Laffer Curve. Its important to distinguish between something that's up in the air because it involves *very* complicated economic theory that maintains multiple effectively unprovable stances (Trickle-down vs Keynesian) and something that is clearly and provably wrong. This situation is the latter. Don't confuse it with the former because that will make people who disagree on the former assume the latter is also subjective.

Its not.

Hey if your kid is dumb enough to ingest something that's gonna kill them, I call that population control.

How did you channel Gas like that?!?

I thought it sounded more like Gov. Brewer.

Wait... oh god....

GAS IS GOV. BREWER!

It all makes sense now!

Poison Control has been around for ever, they helped my mother from freaking out when I swallowed an entire bottle of aspirin as a toddler. I'd hate to see that service cut back or eliminated.

Give him a break, all that "sounds like a sex act" stuff in economics can get confusing.

Yeah, a guy old enough to vote for George Herbert Walker Bush does not know Trickle Down Economics. I was 1 year shy of voting in Reagan's last election.

But getting pissed on by the Congress and the Wealthy is a better description of the policy.

You know, the real funny thing about it that the rich hogging all the money was one of the reason why the US exists... and the entire concept depends on those very people spreading the wealth instead of buying gold plated space ships for themselves...

#19

Joe Johnson

Hey, my family has been manufacturing gold plated space ships for 30 years. Are you trying to drive us out of business???

@Li3n

@Li3n

Pointing out that your business model is unlikely to ever go out of style is trying to drive you out of business now?

Oh god....
NO.

That's the reason that the Soviet Union was created.

The United States was created because Monarchies are by definition dictatorships. That's why the declaration of independance contains a list of charges against the king, instead of a bunch of complaints against the rich. In fact unfair government taxation was one of the charges.

All comments like this do is to make progressive liberal politics look like something 5 year olds come up with, which gives the Tea Party morons ammo they don't need.

NO.

That's the reason that the Soviet Union was created.
And of course the US is such a special flower that there's no comparison between the reason for it's revolution and any other ever.

The king/nobles etc. are oppressing the regular people and taking away their money/opportunities to make money...

But fine, i'll review that to "the rich getting special advantages was one of the reasons etc."

The United States was created because Monarchies are by definition dictatorships. That's why the declaration of independance contains a list of charges against the king, instead of a bunch of complaints against the rich. In fact unfair government taxation was one of the charges.
And they suggested making Washington king after why then?

In fact unfair government taxation was one of the charges.
Taxation without representation is hardly the same as complaining about tax rates being too high...

The United States was created because Monarchies are by definition dictatorships.
While Russia wasn't under a monarchy that was unfairly taking money away from people?

I guess since it doesn't benefit rich people directly (despite that it saves money on medical costs and keeps people healthy), it's free to be cut.

I am officially stating that I will be actively campaigning against the GOP in the next set of elections. When republican's finally get their brains back I may come home, but I can not see myself voting for republicans again until they dissavow themselves of these massively retarded policies.

There really is no argument for it. I'm done with them.
