Last time I asked If there were any overhyped games you were skeptical about, but when you gave them a chance, they turned out to be great. Now, I'm wondering if anyone here has explored into the discout bin at your local game retail stores, found a cheap game that you decided to check out, and found it to be a really great game?

For me, the best example of this was a PS2 game called Shadow Hearts. It was a fun and excelent turn based RPG, with some interesting twists and humor. Even better, it had a great sequel that was even better, and was also cheap.

So, what games did you get for cheap that was an excelent find, something not a lot of people might not know about?

The entire Shadow Hearts (including Koudelka) are probably my picks. Other good choices are Raw Danger and Disaster Report, which both deal with living through natural disasters.

I don't have anything to add, except that Shadow Hearts is a fucking awesome series that everyone should play. Shadow Hearts: Covenant being the best of them all.

Seriously, I played that game through like three times, which is a lot for a 40+ hour rpg.

Ah, I love this topic. Awesome games that no one has played. A couple to get you started. All PC.

- System Shock 2 (download the skin mods to update the game) : If you never played this game, you never really gamed.

- Vampire - The Masquerade Bloodlines : Action RPG that honestly is pretty damn awesome. And this isn't fucken Twilight. I loved being an asshole in this game. You can play this game many times over, every vampire race can provide a serious change in gameplay mechanics, choices and options.

- Odium (Gorky 17) : Strategy/RPG, game is nuts, the combat system is great and the music... it rocks.

Well, I never played Koudelka, cuz its hard to find. Shadow Hearts was amazing. Covenant definately has a spot on my top 10 games of all time. But Shadow Hearts: From the New World SUCKED. Luckily it was more of a spin off than a sequel, but still.

Nice lineup you got there Jay. System Shock 2, pretty awesome game.

From the New World had a better battle system and actually made the designated mage characters worth using by giving them strong, multi-hit attacks. the plot was awful, but I'll stand by it's engine.

Fine, the fighting engine was fine. The plot, characters, and everything else, pure garbage. a stain on an otherwise flawless series, in my oppinion.
