This is part of why I hate activists. These guys are like spoiled children who are absolutely unwilling to accept the fact that their government has been spending irresponsibly for years, and there is no other option than to cut spending. It reminds me of some of the bonehead union moves here in the US where the union strikes while the company is in Chapter 11.

But anyways, how representative is this of the nature of socialism as a whole? At some point if you give people too much do they simply stop working for it themselves? I had a conversation with a Greek guy at work and he made a good point that if you look at a lot of the greeks who come here they start up restaurants and work 16 hour days 7 days a week.

On a tangentally related point, I have a friend who went to Greece for a holiday two weeks ago. She was genuinely surprised when half of Athens had been plunged into anarchy. It shocked me that one could be going somewhere on this planet and not bother to pay attention to the news coming out of that place.

As i understand the government has also been stealing and doing other crap... over here they're cutting salaries for people actually doing work while actually increasing them for dignitaries and others who already had obscene salaries. I'm actually sad that we're not rioting like they are.

and it's not like they're not used to rioting, as i recall student riots where a thing for a few years in greece.
