Thanks, but can you clarify? I'm not exactly sure what you mean! :[

I just mean that your characters convey a lot of feeling. They're not just posed like a mannequin. You feel what they mean, even without faces or details.

You! Yeh you! Remember a year ago you askec me to draw a succubus? Well I did yesterday.
And I'll post it later tonight. Added at: 01:18
Oh, and Gusto, love your poses!

OOooooooh! I do remember and I'm excited in every way.

Man, you are making me miss drawing...

Espy, try improving your aim.

Like I say every time, I love your damn lines, sir.

Well thanks Bumble!

August 6th: Not much time between work and plans today, so here are some quick sketches of lower bodies/legs/asses/pants. I have a renewed appreciation for good knees on a lady.

Man, Gusto, your August 4th piece really made me feel nostalgic. My grandmother used to run a lot of art galleries, and a lot of the pieces she showed and collected looked like that woman. It's beautiful, and it brings me back to really nice memories.
#30
Gusto
Thanks Seej! Glad it struck a chord!

August 7th: Shego and Espy will LOVE this one. And Fade will make me feel self conscious for the lack of a face! I think I'll be coming back to this sketch sometime soon, probably with the tablet.
#32
Bumble the Boy Wonder
I really like August 6th's drawing on the far left. Nice figures
August 8th: Rocked the tablet on yesterday's sketch for a while last night and today but here's just a quick sketch I'm willing to show you.

I'm putting that amazing headshot to the great body pose from above in my head Gusto. Let me just tell ya, I'm smilin. Added at: 00:32
I want to "Shego-ize" it but I'm terrible with colors.
You've been a big supporter of this thread - I think I can do you one better. Stay tuned.
#37
Gusto
August 9th: How about a little colour? Busted out the tablet and the PSE a bit, and used some super photo ref to put together a monochromatic 1680x1050 background. Click for full size.

I saw this in my facebook and devart page. This is really lovely!
Once again my non-fanart fails to illicit any kind of reaction on deviantArt.

'Tis the way of Deviantart. Fanart or GTFO.
That gives me an idea for a sort of social experiment with DA. Create two dummy accounts, one for original art one for fanart, update each with equal frequency and quality of work. See by how much the fanart account gets more followers.
#42
Shegokigo
If you would have colored it and titled it "Shego" I'm sure it would have blown up
Aside from that I thinks its a fantastic piece. You did an excellent job capturing the emotion of the figure.
#43
Biannoshufu
Shego art is worth serious money.
@ Gusto, I like this stuff, but stop keeping with the pace car and push yourself to do better. Hone the craft, and pay attention to the anatomy. You absolutely can do better, and I wish you would. I don't say this to be mean, I say this because more people need to see your art than fuckall dA

I always get a little depressed when I don't get validation. Oh well, I'll keep on keeping on!

August 10th: Practicing a couple things and got so distracted with individual components, the the overall drawing doesn't hold together too well... OH WELL.

Try opening your hand. Let it be floppy on purpose. Don't fight the arcs your arm wants to make. Your arm is full of natural compasses. The paper and your preconceptions both have a way they want the lines to flow. Your perfectionism is fighting it. Let the accidents happen and then make them part of the drawing. Be sketchy and keep the lines that work. Just some advice I ought to follow myself.

I really really really really really like this. Not just because her glasses are exactly like mine but because it's just amazingly beautiful. I could fall in love with a girl like that. Really top notch Gusto.

LittleSin
Dude, I didn't want ot say anything but that looks amazingly like a pic of my mom from high shool.
It's actually wigging me out.
#49
Shegokigo
I'm totally going back in time to meet your mom Sin.....
#50
LittleSin
It would crack me up if you were mom time travelling lesbian lover...cuz Dad has mentioned, one or twice while drunk, that mom did have a female sweet heart during high school...until she met him.
That last part was probably drunken bragging but all it ever did was make me kinda laugh.
#51
Gusto
Man I thought tht sketch was pretty throwaway - I was just practicing different kinds of lips, noses, chins, eyebrows and attempting glasses for the first time in like 4 years.
#52
Cajungal
She's very cute.
#53
Cheesy1
LittleSin, Shego is actually your daddy. Don't ask how that's possible, just accept it.

Some of my best lines happen when my hand is blocking the pen
It's crazy to trust my hand to do it's job, but whaddyaknow

August 11th: Clothed sketch!? Impossible! Shoes, clothing, interesting pose.
#60
Shegokigo
I bloody love those shoes!
#61
Gusto
Oh my god shoes.
#62
Shegokigo
Well I mean, she is gorgeous, I'm not a fan of the Tinkerbell skirt but..... those shoes are amazing. The slit at the heel, the perfect slope and spiked stilettos? Yes please!
#63
LittleSin
Two minor crits: her neck seems a bit long and there's something off about the legs, I think the placement of the knees make the lower legs seem very short and awkward.
Other than that, I like it.
#64
Shegokigo
But the shoes Sin!? The shoes!
#65
LittleSin
The shoes are, indeed, awesome sauce.
#66
Shegokigo
Of course, as with any shoes that look amazing (in ads, mannequins or magazines) they'd never look good actually worn by me
#67
Gusto
Yeah te legs are definitely off somewhat. One of them is definitely longer than it should be. Added at: 14:42
And yeah, there are a few more errors than that.

August 12th: Another pose that I loved on deviantArt, and decided to sketch for further use at some point this month. I've got a few of those now, actually.
I have to admit, I am really self conscious about leaving the faces blank on pose sketches ever since Fade called me out. It's not his fault, it just kinda bothers me now...
#69

My mom worried after seeing one of my own drawings before I finished the head because apparently leaving faces out of drawings is supposed to be a sign of psychological issues. So, you know, there's that.
#70
Gusto
Huh. Well. It's been suggested.
#71
Gusto
August 13th: Just a quick pose sketch today. I'll probably come back to it but I only have a few spare minutes between work this afternoon and plans this evening.

"My mom worried after seeing one of my own drawings before I finished the head because apparently leaving faces out of drawings is supposed to be a sign of psychological issues. So, you know, there's that."
when I was in a state mental ward in my "stupid days youth" the counsellors of the art therapy class took me aside and chided me for over an hour for painting an abstract picture with no people in it. One was actually really upset that I was "acting out" and "rebelling" against the point of the class, which was to draw/paint how we felt.
what was the painting? An "art student" level attempt at recreating this work:
That's right, a Mondrian. Fucker was acting out, apparently.
Sorry to spill that story here
@Gusto have you done timed speed painting/drawings? Like 5 minute life study?
Do it every day. like brushing your teeth. You can use web-based artist references now, including many free sources. just have a sketchpad out, your favorite non hard lead pencil/charcoal stick out, and do five minutes. You stick to it, you will move past the sticking points that makes you go "damn, this doesn't look right." My favorite figure studies teacher used to use a live model a watch and a noise pistol and we'd do 3 5 minute "drill studies of the figure. Are there local figure drawing classes/ meet-up groups in your area? They are way cheaper than art school courses, even though things can be a bit more skeevy with random people.
#75
fade
That actually sounds pretty cool. Never heard of those. One of my life goals is to take art instruction.
#76
Gusto
August 14th: Hmmm. Clearly I need to practice faces more. Again.
#77
fade
It looks fine to me. The ear is a bit high, and the chin is pointy, but not bad. Looks kind of like Carla Gugino.
#78
PatrThom
Really? I don't think the chin is pointy at all. To me, it just looks like the mouth is a little too close to the nose.

The face is too.... scrunched, I guess. Overall. The features don't take as much of the face as they should. Added at: 00:09
I mean, I don't want to argue, but it comes to a very sharp angle. I'm not sure how else to describe that but "pointy".
#81
drifter
Honestly, the face is the thing that doesn't bother me about that drawing. Although I agree with fade, the chin is hella sharp.

Yup. I done fucked up, son.

August 20th: Good news everyone! Today I finished my painting. Here's a picture of it in the sunlight.
I might take more pictures of it under different lighting, just so it looks like it would actually look inside a house. That might have to wait a few days until I can borrow a camera again.
I'll also be posting/reposting all my progress pictures for this painting over the weekend at my new Facebook Page, Kevin Miller's Oil Paintings.

Shegokigo
Picture reminds me of Morph (The HF Poster). So yeah, that's a compliment.
I'm gonna finish it though; I like this drawing enough that it may become a concept for a future painting.
#102
ThatNickGuy
Maybe it's Rene Montoya as The Question? Hm, no, that would be the whole face blank.
It's Blank Woman! (blank face north of her nose)
#103
fade
How about some STEVE BUSCEMI EYES?!? Seriously, I just thought this was a funny thing someone did to Shegokigo's picture, but apparently it's a whole meme.
August 24th: Now I'm just relishing in the faceless pose sketches.

Man why couldn't they have given draenei a red color tint!? The crooked/different direction horns are just amazing. I love demons/esses who look way past the norm.
All around thumbs up, especially love the hair style.

Good stuff gusto!
Try pushing yourself to draw something interacting with something rather than just posing in free space. *oooh*
I don't mean to challenge you like that sounded. Just some suggestions!

The rest of my August is likely to be filled with intense job training, so I don't think I'll be able to finish out the last couple days. Sorry, but look for a few pieces in my regular art thread in the near future - I've still got a small stockpile of half done-sketches and save reference images.

No more gorgeous naked ladies? I has a dissapoint.
