Bah - was at a crappy raffle contest for Beatles: Rock Band stuff earlier tonight. I say "crappy" because it was being funded and hosted by a Chicago radio station (Can't remember the exact station at the moment) at a Blockbuster Video nearby. Problem is, as soon as they left around 10:00 to get back to Chicago, the hosting of the event was turned over to the Blockbuster, who proceeded to fuck it up fairly badly.

3 issues here:

1 - People suddenly had to be present at the drawing (12 midnight), when leading up to it it was stated that no one had to be. Friend of mine would have won one of the grand prizes - the huge bundled set for the PS3 - if he had just been there. As it stands, we called him immediately after his ticket was brought up, but they still gave it away to someone else (after they went through another 3-4 tickets to find someone that WAS actually at the store).

2 - In line with the "new" previous rule (Must be at drawing), no one was allowed to hold a prize for someone who wasn't present...EXCEPT for one guy who won that apparently worked for the store and helped set up a temporary fence for the parking lot or something. Everyone else who knew someone that won something? No dice.

3 - Some people put in more than one raffle ticket, which was pretty obviously against the rules. I know some people did, because one guy won something (Guitar, I think), and then "won" something else. He didn't actually get the 2nd item, but he still get to keep the first thing he got - he, and a couple others with him claimed that the people originally hosting the thing (Radio station) said it was okay to put a 2nd raffle ticket in. Riiiiiiiight.

Arg.

...

Err, anyway. At least I got a nice Abbey Road poster/frame thing for my wall...that I paid for. But ignoring all that, I do want to start listening/studying The Beatles more. Now seems like a pretty good time.

The game is awesome. What I think is most amazing about their catalog, now that I have a fair bit of it laid out in front of me, is that I enjoy playing the songs I'm not familiar with. Some of it's not the greatest, but it's all at least decent.

The amount of work that went into it had to have been crazy. They didn't just sit down and convert the songs into extra rock band tracks. It's obviously a labor of love, and when playing in story mode, doesn't even feel like rock band. This is, without a doubt, an experience. This game captures what all other shitty plastic instrument game imitators always seem to miss when making a game.

...with the exception of the walrus costume. Paul, you're creeping me the fuck out with that thing.

ALSO: You know, it's a great thing to make it to the next setlist and see no Fall Out Boy, or Bon Jovi, or some other shitty band/song that I'll have to grind my way through.

Also, according to the video in the article, the infamous "Aw, fuckin' hell" John mutters at the middle of Hey Jude can be heard louder than ever on the remaster

Okay I have a secret.I have never listened to a beatles song by choice.Sure I've heard maybe one or two in movies and on tv but never actually listened to one.

So beatles fans, convince me that they arn't just another piece of string in the fabric of past music that is not relevant to me.List the 5 best beatles songs. Those with the most votes get listened to, and maybe just maybe I will enjoy it.

Picking five awesome Beatles songs is like being forced to pick one book to read for the rest of your life! If I had more time I would give ya a whole list, but since you said only five, I shall deliver. Here they are in no particular order (and I know I am missing out on even better ones):

Hey Jude
Across the Universe (Fiona Apple does a GREAT cover of this)
Golden slumbers/carry that weight/the end (a medley, although listed as different tracks)
Maxwell's Silver Hammer
Something

Man, that was hard and I'm sure I have more that can upset this list. I just can't think straight right now :)

#10

Biardo

While my guitar gently weeps
Across the Universe
A Day in the Life
Strawberry Fields Forever
Helter Skelter

But if you ask me again tomorrow it will probably be different, 5 is just to hard

I'm still torn on whether I want this or not.

On the one hand, I enjoy the beatles, and I fucking love rockband. And I do need to get more plastic instruments for my new PS3.

On the other hand, all beatles all the time makes me feel like I'd get bored. I like the variety in rock band.

You won't get bored. Trust me, I worried the same thing, but there's an assload of variety somewhere in between "A Hard days night" and "revolution." The story mode's great, because you watch the Beatles grow and evolve in between the song setlists they give you. It's just as much a work of art as it is a video game.

...And all you need is love hit DLC today!

For the person who wanted a top 5 list, this is probably totally cliche and will remind everyone what a sap I am, but here are my favorites for better or for worse:

Something
Yesterday
Eleanor Rigby
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Let It Be

Those are some seriously depressing Beatles!

hahaha, I know! That's why I said it would make me look like a sap. But Hey Jude would probably be #6 on that list, and it's a comparatively upbeat song!

That was kinda the point of the 5 songs. If i wanted to sift through the entire collection I would have already.I'm looking for the creme de la creme.

I am not a Beatle's fan however I just saw "Across the Universe" and enjoyed it so much I bought the soundtrack. I like Beatle's songs when they're not performed by the Beatle's apparently :Leyla:

So my boyfriend is a pretty big Beatles nut and I was curious to hear his top 5, so for s&g I thought I'd post it here:

Yesterday
Come Together
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Glass Onion
(and everything else is tied for 5th... smarty pants)

That's the same problem I'm having, poe. I enjoy the Beatles, and I like the games, but I don't really want a game of NOTHING but a single band. And I'm sure you'll have this problem way worse than me... But I hear the game is ridiculously easy. And while I don't JUST play these games to challenge myself or anything, if the entire game is simplistic as fuck, I'm not really going to go back to it that often.

The Beatles' catalog, especially what is represented in the game, is quite diverse. This isn't AC/DC or some Metallica shit where 15-20 years later they're still cranking out songs that sound the same, or desperatley trying to while slowly "modernizing" their sound to stay relevant. While playing, I found myself hesitant to play songs I'd never heard or didn't know well, only to find out that they were (for the most part) great too. This game's tracklist easily trumps every other plastic guitar game I've ever bought. Even the crappy songs don't delve into the world of shit that these games normally delve into to have "something for everyone."

And I'm sure you'll have this problem way worse than me... But I hear the game is ridiculously easy. And while I don't JUST play these games to challenge myself or anything, if the entire game is simplistic as fuck, I'm not really going to go back to it that often.
The game's on par with Rock Band/2. I find myself in the same position as the former where I can easily complete the easier songs on Hard, but barely struggle through the moderate ones. I do find that the note tracking is a hair more generous though, but this doesn't factor in much if you can't mentally process the notes coming down fast enough ;)

Abalistar

Okay, played and beat the game tonight at a friends house.

It's definitely on the easier side(at least guitar/bass), but it's very well put together. The dreamscapes are fucking fantastic. The real difficulty of the game is forcing yourself to watch the highway and not drift upwards to watch the beauty behind you. :(
