Headset Time Again! (I Bought A Pair, Ripped Off Wal-Mart Too!)

My Skullcandy earbuds are awesome. Love em. A few months ago I lost my headset to my flippin dog and replaced them with some cheap $10 Wal-Mart brand to tide me over till I had some cash. Well that time has come.

I'm looking not only for a reliable Headset (Mic + Headphone) I also want them to be audio Noise Cancelers (not reducers) so that I can drown out the TV and Radio just a few feet from my computer. My question for you, Hal-Forumites is thus:

Can I do it for less than $100?

I'm looking at the $40-70 range mostly, but if they're REALLY worth it, I'll go $100. So audiophiles, what do you recommend?

Headset Time Again!

I'd get some Sennheiser. The ones I use I've had for over two years and I love them. Great sound quality, very comfy. Definitively one of the best companies I've found. In your price range there's the PC151 and PC161 for $50~, the next price step is $100.

Headset Time Again!

From the ones you're linking in the previous post I'm doubting now, do you want a mic on the headset or not?

Headset Time Again!

Yeah, mic is going to be necessary. The ones above have a mic (they say in the description) but not sure where they are in those photos....

Strange... out of all the times I've played with you, you've NEVER used your mic. Paranoid much? Or is it just to avoid the incessant "OMFG It's a GIRL!" comments?

I'm a Razer whore. I love all their shit.

From my experience going as low as 50 bucks for headphones can be a bad thing. Almost every pair of 30-50 dollar headphones I've bought from respectable companies like Logitec, have gone to shit in a year or so.

I shelled out the money for the cuda's, and they never fail. I actually should have gone with the Piranhas though. I have the opposite problem as you. I want to hear ambient sounds around my house (kids, dog, door opening)... These babies definitely drown out EVERYTHING, and you get 5.1 surround sound effect to boot.

I use my mic for WoW raids mostly. I used to use it on TF2 but if you've played on my server for more than a few minutes you'll see how well it goes. We had one girl ridiculed till she left the server (sadly she did have the voice of a 10yr old boy) so there are about 8 of us (women) who play on the SourceOP maps and most of us do our talking through text and friendslist messages. Which hampers alot of the strategy involved (especially when I'm Spy) but :noidea: whatever.

That's pretty much my feeling on the subject to, I hold off on buying equipment I need so that I don't end up with sub-par results. Now's the time I have some funds to get a good set. I'll look into the Razer's, thanks!

$140-180

Sadly it's out of my price range, but everywhere I go it gets amazing reviews.
This is what I have Shego.

I even took the extended warranty (for a total of 3 years). After 2 years, the mic broke... I sent it back and got my replacement in 3 business days (it helped that they had a repair shop in my own city and they even provided a drive by pickup which I didn't take).

I didn't get a refurb... I got a brand new one, with excuses. With the new headset getting a brand new 3 years warranty. :)

Oh and it's fucken awesomesauce. I'm sure there's better somewhere but these are SOOOO comfy and do a fantastic job and the support? Invaluable.

Headset Time Again!

Noise cancellation : 10/10 (this makes my fiancee mad :) )
Quality : 9/10 (surround sound, extra base, microphone is great (i think you hear me when we play TF right?), doesn't get a 10 because I've heard better from Sennheiser but no mic on the better quality ones)

Best for price IMO. I truly recommend forking the cash for extended warranty.

Headset Time Again! (Now With Public Service Announcement)

I wanted to make sure this wasn't a "mistake" or a "misprint" before I placed this info up on Halforums, but I ordered:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=12571570

Yes, that's correct, a Megaladon for $45. I didn't think it was real so I placed the order, and it's currently in route on a FedEx truck to my house. I was seriously anticipating the entire night to have the purchase revoked and have an apology email in my box this morning telling me of the pricing error.

Now obviously, it was an error as you can see they're suddenly "Sold Out", even though they went up for sale just yesterday. Also the:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=12571573

were priced even lower at $35 yesterday too and you can see they have a new price tag.

So while they have mixed reviews online (The fact they simulate 7.1, sometimes they don't upscale 5.1 etc) but for $45? Yeah I'll take em!

Holy shit, nice catch.

I'm not huge on Razor... in fact, twice they didn't even last beyond 9 months and that's using them with care. Hopefully your purchase comes with a long term warranty and I'll get to hear you on TF2, "UBER me Jay!"

We must dominate!

Oh you bitch!

I really got into them yesterday. I didn't use my desktop 5.1s at all.

That being said:

Comfort: Over 6hrs of use? Still as comfortable as when I first put them on. Zero strain.

Quality: I see where some of the complaints came from. Low Bass (put on some pretty deep base music but it was at the same levels as the treble), and "synthicized" sound instead of "true" sound. BUT, it really did have true 7.1 sound. I could really tell the difference where things were: behind me, on my left, on my right, my upper left, etc. It was a strange experience since I'm used to having real speakers (my desktops) providing that sound and suddenly it was all coming from inside my head. Definetely a :thumb:

Ease of Use: It really was "plug and play" as advertised. I put them on my main PC, my surfing PC and my GFs computer and withing seconds, and no installing at all, they were good to go. They even instant configured whatever program I used to be either 7.1 or Headphone with no extra help from me. Also my GF loved them as her laptop sound is pretty trashy and the soundcard that comes inside the volume control was superior in everyway.

One complaint though, they're not true "noise cancelling", but they do cup the ear well and with enough sound it will drown out most unwanted noise. My GFs TV/Radio became a small whisper if I heard it at all last night. :D She enjoyed not having to hear my Vent/TF2/WoW noise at all though for the entire evening.

Overall: Worth probably up to $100, but defintely not the price tag that Razer is currently asking. I hear the Logitech G35 are the ones to go with in the 100-200 price range. Though, it was DEFINTELY worth the $45 I paid.

I am totally jealous.

I'm using Plantronics and I have trouble with the mic, despite Steam and my normal sound settings turned up all the way it's almost impossible to hear me in game or in anything but Vent really. The headset itself on the other hand is great, I forget I'm wearing it sometimes.
