I had never seen this before. Apparently home release was tied up in legal battles, explaining why. I really enjoyed it. And not just because of the big boobs. I liked the experimental animation and separately directed segments. I call bullshit on Leonard Maltin's review of adolescent fun. There's more than that going on here on the art alone. If you've never been attracted to an animated character before, you will when you see Taarna. Which isn't all that odd, because the segment she appears in is heavily rotoscoped. She's animated over Canadian model Carole Desbiens. The music really made the movie, too. I knew enough to know that South Park was spoofing the movie with the cat musk episode, but now the parody is even funnier. If you like trippy adult animation (and pretty much the whole second city tv crowd doing voices) go nuts.

I gotta get a space Corvette.

(If you're wondering about the rash of reviews, my family is out of town at the in-laws for 2 weeks.)

That movie, when I first saw it on Bravo when I was 12-13 years old was a total eye opener for me (in more ways than one). It really got me into animation more seriously as something more than just awesome cartoons.

Also, I will always rock the fuck out when plays anywhere.

I saw it once in High School and thought it was okay. Now that I have a greater appreciation for animation, I'd like to give it a second try sometime. Though, honestly, metal music isn't really my thing.

The magazine is even more awesome, if you can imagine such a thing. Kati managed to convince her dad to hand over all his old copies...every issue except for #1 or #2, I forget which.

I also have the VHS of HM, as well as a VHS of HM2K. I haven't watched either in years, though.

Heavy Metal is as awesome as it is fucked up. I always loved Harold Ramis as the stoned alien and John Candy as the sexbot:

NSFW (Contains cartoon BOO-BAYS)

Also, The Fifth Element reminded me a lot of that one segment near the beginning of the movie.

I never looked into the connection, but yes, when I saw the Fifth Element, all I could think of was Heavy Metal.
