How do you feel about a Naked Gun remake?

Cause it's happening!

My problem isn't the remake, my problem is Ed Helms. Ed Helms is not capable of that role. I'm not saying he isn't funny or anything. I just don't see him being able to pull it off. You know why Leslie Neilson was so good at the deadpan noir delivery? Because he spent the first part of his career playing those parts before Airplane and Police Squad.

I can't even think of a modern equivalent. Jon Hamm maybe.

I heard Steve Carrell suggested. I think that could work but I doubt he wants to be pigeonholed into that kind of comedy.

Maybe Alec Baldwin?

Tommy Lee Jones.

Yes. He's already been in that position with Men in Black though. I like it either way.

I think they are trying too hard to find someone like Neilson. I think they should go a completely different direction with someone not known for comedy and is different from Dreban in every way.

Hamm would be great as he has good comedic chops. I wouldn't mind seeing someone like David Tennant giving it a go.

I want to know who is going to play Officer Nordberg... since he's still in jail.

1. It's Nielsen.

He could pull it off. He's played plenty of few-cards-short-of-a-deck but earnest people making inadvertent mistakes and jokes.

Plus he has the white hair.

I'm sure they'll insist on re-doing it in post processing anyway, for not being the right shade of white...:p

So not even white people are immune to being white-washed.

I suggest The Rock. Campy non-actor who could conceivably play a semi-washed up cop in a wacky slapstick movie. Yup.

Or Dan Akroyd.
He could do the delivery. Already did in Dragnet.

Clark Gregg. I watched Iron Man last night. He's funny and has the dead pan delivery down.

Stephen Colbert could do a great job, except he already kinda plays the unwitting idiot every night.

I think he's still a bit too young, but of course he could probably work around that.
He would just need tone down his usual "clueless zealot" persona and play up "clueless detective."

Usually I don't care too much one way or the other about remakes, as they're not always horrible.

I just can't for the life of me think of anyone who could pull off that character in a way that remotely lives up to Nielsen.

When was the last time you watched Naked Gun and does it hold up?

I haven't seen it since I was in High School.

About a year ago, and I believe it does.

Sometimes I wish they would just clean up/HDify the original movies and re-release them into the theaters for a month. It'd be a lot cheaper and most movies don't last longer then a month in theaters anyway. I can see remakes for movies that can take advantage of technological advances...but the Naked Gun?

3D would allow the creation of visual gags ... that rely on parallax? I guess?
