My city is smallish, population of 1 million+, a fraction of our close neighbor Mexico City. But Querétaro (that's what it's called, dare you to pronounce it correctly) is sort of the crossroads of Mexico. Smack in the center, this is where the country's main highways cross. It's the fastest growing city in the country thanks to a fuck ton of new big businesses coming on to take advantage of that crossroads feature.

That's why, I guess, Google has decided to push through a Street View of Queretaro, just months after it came out for Mexico's big cities. A surprise to all us residents, believe me.

But evne though my nice suburb area is well documented in street view... my house and street aren't.

Cause of one guy:


Say hi to the security guard at my street's entrance.

Apparently the Google car was ok taking pics of most of the streets in Jurica (the suburb where I live), but the zealous and proud man that guards my street and the one parallel to it decided it could not pass. I have never seen them stop cars when I'M driving through, but a big scary thing on top of a car means no entrance to Calleja's realm, apparently. Oh, the hilarity.

As you can see the nice Google people have NO IDEA how the streets are supposed to go and you'll see a lot of guide lines going off into houses or crossing the street they're supposed to represent diagonally.

BUT.. if you are crafty enough, you'll be able to see my old school, where I spent the last couple of years of elementary, and all middle and high school. It's a very strong man's stone's throw away from my house. Very, very strong man.

Jurica is where I learned to drive, and where my first girlfriend lived. It's also a great place for parties and driving around, smoking a joint with friends. Slowly, of course, those are cobbled streets.

Update: Oh yeah, if you try "moving" around with the arrows like you usually can, you'll end up hitting "dead ends"... more bad google street viewing of my area. You're better off using the "go-to" circle with the cursor and double clicking. Or zooming out and then back in.

Is it pronounced kay-RAY-tah-row?

no, not even close. Remember, to get an "ray" sound in spanish you'd have to type "rey".

You can't get into my apartment complex here in Atlanta, but you can roll right up in front of my parents' place back home in California. Never bothered to try it before. Picture looks to be a couple years old at least.

We lived in our current house for, I think, about five years before our street even showed up on online maps. I'm not holding my breath for Google maps to drive by my house.

Google maps documented every place in my life (in Barcelona) except for my university, because it's in the old zone of the city and they didn't like to try to get the google car through all those narrow streets...

yeah, guess our capital city is a smallish city.

My daughter can be seen playing in the playground of her school. Its just up the hill from my house. My house cannot be seen.

Huh. Well, Mexico City has a population of 25+ million. Guadalajara has like 5 million, Monterrey has like 4 million. Down here it's like you're barely a city if you barely hit 1 million.

Heh your smallest cities have a higher population than my entire state. That cracks me up.

My garage door is open in my google street view, so everyone in the world can see how messy it is. =/

I just checked and South Carolina has a population of only 4.5 million.

Does that security station serve taquitoes? It looks spacious.

My house is still pink in street view. Someone bought it, fixed it up, and painted it. Boo ugly street view!

In the sitcom of my life, this would be the establishing shot for when we come back to my apartment.
