..mainly because I broke it >< .. OOOF!!!

(sigh) was taking it apart, to fix the power supply/adapter board, known in Akai brand tv's to fail miserably. At some point in the disassembly process it fell over on it's front face on Friday, and I thought it was fine, it didn't seem like it would have done much if any damage. HA! ... it looked like a baseball hit it once I finally got the power working and could see anything on the screen. Gave the customer his money today...so much for getting ahead.. since he deals in wholesale resales of tv's, he didn't pay much for it and we were trying to see if we could get it all working, so what I refunded him was the price of the part + labor. I'm glad he didn't demand MORE, he could have.

I guess I hard to learn a hard way somewhere, but at least I finally got to tear apart an LCD TV down to the core.. (I've taken apart lots of monitors, but this was my first full blown lcd TV) the lights on it are much different than a monitor, which have an upper and lower light source.. on (this) lcd tv, it has about 10 rows of horizontal lights all down the back.

Amazingly, he said he would be back, he said he liked my integrity. I will put pillows under and around any other tv's I need to work on!

Glad to hear that he didn't hold an honest mistake against you
Me too. Although he let it slip that he liked to keep everything in cash and under the table away from the IRS,... so if I absolutely HAD to, I could have pulled that little Ace card. Never had to do that, and wouldn't want to, but there it is. It was an honest mistake. I did NOT take a baseball bat to it and take batting practice. That pretty much goes against the whole "wanting to KEEP good customers" philosophy!! =D
