Have to say, I'm very much missing whatever the issue is here as well.

I play Rock Band and Rock Band 2 fairly often - and I also don't see what exactly the problem is. Is it because he was somewhat haphazard with the song in relatively easy spots? Is it the dorks on stage? Is it the lame choice in music? What is the problem here?

The issue was Cash and Cobain appearing in Guitar Hero. Feels pretty tasteless.

Wait - those were...?

...

GRAH. I thought they looked familiar.

Why is Cash drumming?

Guitar hero stopped being about rocking out with fisher price guitars and became squeezing dollar signs out of turds when Harmonix left.

Rock Band is insanely better than Guitar Hero in every way, and with every single thing they do.

My favorite example of this is when the song creator was announced for Guitar Hero 4. Neversoft or whoever was all like "Ooh, we're awesome, cause we have a song creator," and Harmonix replied, "We don't want to try it until we know we can do it right."

Guitar Hero's "song creator" turned out to be a horribly complex crappy midi sequencer plaguing the guitar her downloader with either terrible music, or covers that got pulled. Its crowning moment - downloading a song called "Stairway," which turned out to be a somewhat well rendition of Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. I say truthfully that the laugh I got out of it was more fun than I had had playing the actual game.

Rock Band, on the other hand, is going to release the song compliation tools they use so you can add your own songs, so long as they're your own creation and you have the master tracks. It then goes to the development area where people will give you input, and if it's good enough, they'll sell it online and you can make a buck or two.

Courtney, why don't you just auction his ashes off on E-Bay?

I was completely done with it when 3 had a Rage Against the Machine song open with Axe advertisements.

I'm kind of tired of all of these rhythm games but everyone else is still crazy about them so I have the first Rock Band. I really like how it has cross compatibility with its songs so I don't have to hear people bitch about how my air band game is too outdated for them to enjoy.

Yeah, I like that about rock band and rock band 2 - it's somewhat annoying that you can't play with people using the other version, though. If you're interested, you can export all BUT 3 (more on that in a second) of the songs from rock band to the hard drive for use in rock band 2. It's pretty nice to do that to gain access to the songs on rock band 2, but it comes with a couple of annoyances:

1 - It costs something like 5 bucks to do it. There's an argument there over whether that's a good deal compared to the individual download price per song or whether it's a ripoff because you've already purchased the songs by buying the game that I'm not getting into right now. But the option is there if you want it.

2 - The more annoying of the two, in my opinion. When you export, you export all but 3 of the songs. Which songs?

Black Sabbath - Paranoid (Song in-game was a cover, though)
Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills (This one isn't as bad as the others, since the original song was a cover - albeit a fairly good cover - and up for download now is the original song, using the master track from the real band.)
Metallica - Enter Sandman (This one pisses me off the most; it WAS the master track, and now with guitar hero: Metallica, it's unlikely we'll see anything more from them on rock band)

I never found there to be much of a difference until I played RB2. It's amazing.

Also fuck GH5, putting Cobain and Cash in there is an insult and normally I don't subscribe to that kind of thing but it bugs the shit out of me.

well i got and played GH 5 yesterday, mailing away for free van halen today. well the game has some cool features on it like roadie battle and party mode, but its nothing to get too excited over. its got "plug in baby" by muse on it though and that makes it worth it to me. i've loved that song since 2000.
