When I worked for a seismic data acquisition company, geophysicists were treated like gods.

geophysics sounds like a field of study that was made up by a third rate sci-fi hack who needed a plot device that's inscrutable to any real-world science.

Yeah, it's not like Gruebeard's entire life is some sort of experiment where we try to see how a human would behave in a world without magic or unicorn powered carriages... that would be ridiculous.
