My daughter (she's 6) worked really hard on growing a nice pretty pink flower all by herself watering, planting, everything and today we go out there to see it's barely a stub, some asshole came and clipped all the stems off of it and left it looking like a piece of crap! So I printed out a note and thumb tacked it to our balcony, enjoy.

My father has some really nice roses and fruit trees in his yard. It was actually quite common to find the blasted things stripped by passers-by.

Lesson learned.

*grumble* someone dumped out one of the pots today, just ordered a network camera and overnighted it so it'll be here on Wens.

Probably the same jackass who ruined the flower in the first place... best of luck catching the jerk.

if you really want to CATCH the guy in the act, make sure the camera is in an INconspicuous place. Good luck catching him!

Because we'll all know his true identity when he delves further into madness and vows to take on the night using the Flower as a symbol?

If you can still get a view of the garden from inside, try setting the camera within a window.

Let's say you get video footage of a dude knocking over your pots.

What do you intend to do with it?

Texas Penal Code§ 28.03. CRIMINAL MISCHIEF. (a) A person commits an
offense if, without the effective consent of the owner:
(1) he intentionally or knowingly damages or destroys
the tangible property of the owner;
(2) he intentionally or knowingly tampers with the
tangible property of the owner and causes pecuniary loss or
substantial inconvenience to the owner or a third person; or
(3) he intentionally or knowingly makes markings,
including inscriptions, slogans, drawings, or paintings, on the
tangible property of the owner.

Maybe I'm thinking of a sort of top-down angle on this camera, but even if the picture captures his/her face, is that gonna be enough? Like, even assuming this is someone from the building and not just a teenager who passed by one night or like a racoon?

#33

CrimsonSoul

CrimsonSoul

assuming it's a person a video of vandalism I'm sure would be enough. If it's a racoon well then that's nature

What I'm asking is, who do you accuse if you capture video of someone doing it maliciously? Assuming:

a) you don't know EVERYONE in your building;
b) it could still be any random passerby; and
c) the person responsible isn't wearing a nametag.

I'm reminded of an episode of the Justice League where Luthor and the Flash switch bodies in an accident of magic and technology. Luthor takes a quick breather to go to the washroom and proudly say to no one, "If nothing else, I can use this opportunity to find out the true identity of the Flash!"

He then pulls down his hood, stares in the mirror, his triumphant smile fades, and he says, "...I have no idea who this is."

...Anyway I'm just saying that the odds are incredibly unlikely that your camera will capture footage of anyone you can identify to the police as a vandal.

#35

CrimsonSoul

CrimsonSoul

While true that I probably don't know the guy/gal everything has to have a starting place

#36

crono1224

Unless it is a series of unrelated events, in which case you catching one person may mean nothing the next time because it would be a different person. And if it is a random event your video will be nearly useless, unless you want to hire a detective to track down the person. I am quite sure the police won't do anything with some grainy video footage of someone you can't identify.

#37

CrimsonSoul

CrimsonSoul

regardless of that possibility, crono, I have a camera, and that's kinda cool (I like tech stuff like that)
