A team of doctors in western India are carrying out a study on a hermit who claims to have survived without food and water for 70 years.
The holy man claims that he derives energy through meditation.
Sanjoy Majumder reports from Delhi.
It is interesting that these doctors and military is trying to figure out the secret and hopefully to train their soldiers this ability? Unless it is a "magical" feat, I don't think you can just turn on/off your natural functions. I believe it is a gradual thing and lots and lots of discipline. Here is my question, does the guy do anything else? cause if he just sleeps, meditate and back to sleep. I would say it is kinda hibernation
I don't know. I'm just guessing here.

Except humans can't hibernate...
You know what would be funny?! If they teach soldiers this and then as a result they all become pacifists...
I know, but I don't know another term that could "explain" this if it was true.

During his 10-day fast, he lost weight, casting doubt on his ability to live without food.
The current testing is more rigorous and longer than the previous testing.

Wait, he stayed 10 days without water?! That alone is impressive...

Impressive definitely, but not unheard of.
And he wasn't 100% without water. He was allowed to rinse his mouth daily. Which isn't much, but you can't say some water wasn't absorbed by the mucous membranes.
