Aloha fellow forumites, I am in Austin for the first time any suggestions on some interesting things to do? Anybody want to meet up for drinks?

You'll want to check out the green belt for some river shinanigans.

6th street is amazing at night. I don't know what you're into so I'll suggest a few places that I like.

http://www.elysiumonline.net/ is the "alternative" club. It's got an 80s pop music night tonight. Otherwise it's usually a kind of goth scene. Pretty fun all around.

http://jackalopebar.com/ is more of a classic dive place. They play more classic rock/metal etc.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/malaia-world-lounge-austin is a kind of overrated "high roller" place. Really only recommending it for the go go dancers.

http://www.elephantroom.com/ features live jazz.

http://www.theranchaustin.com/The_RANCH_website/The_RANCH_-_Location.html the ranch is a bit more of a relaxed club. It's further away from the main party scene on 6th and draws a slightly older group. Instead of mostly young 20somethings it's more of an older 20- young 30 crowd.

Haha the drafthouse has a turn off your Cellphone thing before the movie and it's a chick that left a nasty vm on their phone for being kicke out for being on her phone

Okay, I thougth that it was going to be in "either August or September" when you went on leave.

My mistake.

Whoa, I was just in Austin this weekend!

There are a lot of great food trucks. My favorites are on South Lamar right across from the Alamo Drafthouse there/The Highball.

Phil had a pretty good list/rundown of downtown-ish places.

I don't know the clubs on 6th street very well... hard to remember the names when you are drinking.

For cool wildlife ask if the bats at the Congress Ave. Bridge are flying. It is the largest urban bat colony in America. It is only a few blocks from 6th.

I may or may not be heading down there on Tuesday.

If you're going to San Marcos I highly recomend floating the river there. The lion's club float is about 45 minutes long if you take your time but is free with your own tube. The river taxi is 2 dollars for a whole day.

Bob's fish camp is the other one. That's a 3-4 hour float. It's 10 dollars to get in and probably another 10-15 for tubes and stuff.

You're also 15 minutes or so from schlitterbaun water park in new braunfelds. I spelled all of that wrong probably.

St patrick's bar located just off the square is my favorite place there. During happy hour you can get $.25 wings and dollar margaritas. I don't know if they're still doing $1 extra patron shots.

Otherwise bar 141 is an ok dance club. Otherwise go to the restless wind for a good dive scene.

I love Schlitterbahn, and I'm not a fan of water-parks in general. The old park, with the river-water fed slides and lots of trees is fantastic. The newer section ain't terrible, but it's more of a typical water-park.
