Infrared conversion options

Hi :)

I am so in love with IR photography that I am considering having my Rebel converted at Lifepixel.

My filter that I use with my full frame and 50mm is the Deep Black and White.

My converted point and shoot is somewhere between their standard and enhanced IR.

I think that any of the IR filters can be converted to Black and White so I would rather not go that route as I can get it in PS at any time.

The reason I am considering converting my Rebel is that I want to shoot in RAW and be able to fully control everything. I also want to try IR macro work and my point and shoot is only capable of so much.

So, what do you guys think of the filter options? I know this style isn't for everyone, in fact my mum has come right out and said she doesn't like it. However, if you do like it, what ones look cool to you?

If it was me, I'd go for the full spectrum filter and do my spectrum selection at the front of the lens, but I really, really value versatility over convenience.
In other words, I'd want my eyes to be able to see anything and just change my sunglasses to shift my spectra.

My concern with that is the focusing. With my 50mm lens and the Deep B&W filter, it's impossible to focus. I have to focus then put the filter on and hope my butter fingers don't know the focus ring.

The good thing about that option is that much more red information would pass through for astro work.

I had originally considered the standard IR filter but now after watching the video I'm torn between the enhanced and super colour. Not that I like that look but it allows conversion to all the filters before it.

If you're hemming between multiple filters, take the advice on this page of theirs and go for the widest one. You can always go narrower later, but you can't ever go wider than the internal filter.
