iPhone has turned into steaming pile of shit. Who to blame?

My iphone has always been a pretty shitty phone, but tonight it hit an all time low, and I think its just going to get worse. The question is, do I yell at AT&T or Apple?

Here's whats going on. I have always had the dropped calls and signal zeroing that the iPhone is famous for (and apple blames on AT&T, which is bullshit because I have never seen this with another AT&T phone i have had), and generally pretty lousy/slow edge network speed. Hell I'm lucky if I can get 5 bars most of the time.

Tonight though was different. I call my brother, and notice that I don't hear a ring (that's kind of normal too), then look at the phone and notice that I'm actually connected with him. I hit speaker and I can hear him. Seems my ear speaker is out. Oh well, must be a glitch. I hang up so I can call him back.

I try to call him back and get a call failed (also pretty common). I try and wait out the signal zero glitch and then see my phone is stuck on searching, then just goes to no signal. This is the heart of Houston, there is a signal.

So I restart my phone. Nothing. Restart it again. Nothing. Reset my network connection. Nothing. Fuck it, I need to talk to him, I call him on skype from my computer. As soon as he picks up, I notice that I have bars, halleluja! For some reason I only have 2, but whatever.

I call him, still no sound from the earpiece. I grab my headphones and plug them in so I don't have to talk over the shitty speakerphone. This hangs up on him....

I call him back. As his phone is ringing a song from my ipod starts playing. I can hear him talking and this song playing. I hang up on him. The song keeps playing.

I call him back. No song this time. I get across the quick little thing I needed to tell him, then unplug my headphone to see if earpiece works. Phone hangs up on him.

I have been having severe memory leak issues with the phone for a while now, but I have never had anything as ridiculous as this. Tommorow I plan on going to yell at someone, but I can't figure out who to blame. I'm pretty sure this is something wrong with the phone itself. I have had AT&T for years and have never really had an issue.

But I fucking hate going to the apple store. When you bring a product in with a real problem they spend more time explaining to you how it isn't really their fault than in actually fixing the problem. Fuck it, I want to go tear someone a new asshole.

PS I actually like my phone, for all its faults.

Both.
Get an Android-based phone, unlock root access, never look back.

I recently had to take my iPhone back becuase it would go to sleep and not wake up (they released a software fix for it). I took it in, explained the issue, explained that I'd already tried a system restore (you can do this through itunes but you lose everything). It's something they are going to do anyway. They replaced my phone. Total time talking to the Apple rep? 5 minutes.

It sounds like you have a shit phone. You should be able to get it replaced. Try the system restore. I've had software end up with a corrupted install. Go ahead and schedule your appointment at the genius bar because, as far as I know, you can't just walk in and get in line for tech support. In the mean time, try the system restore. You very well could have dropped it and knocked something loose. Don't admit this to them, but it's possible and, given the way most people are with cell phones, is incredibly likely.

Best of luck.

By the way, I absolutely LOVE the iphone. Its by far the best phone I've owned. I'm about to upgrade to the 3GS. I can't wait. And I will NEVER own a mac. The only ipod I owned was one I got off of one of the first free ipod sites. The iPhone is the first Apple product I've paid for.

Umm... as someone who has been with AT&T for ages I can promise you AT&T has some of the crappiest cell service in the country.

I have had 4 different phones and all of them drop calls, miss calls, etc. EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Everything you describes has happened to me on an almost weekly basis.

For some dumb reason my boss has an iPhone and it never happens to him.

Not a fan of having to unlock phones, as it can lead to bricks.
It isn't "unlocking" as iPhone users know it.
All it is is making available the root access enjoyed by all other Linux users.
The only way you can screw it up is if you are a complete moron, and I know you aren't

Yeah, the thing stopping me and my wife from getting iPhones (which have just claimed the top place in the J.D. Powers customer satisfaction survey which have just claimed the top place in the J.D. Powers customer satisfaction survey ) is At&t's terrible overall call quality. The moment the iPhone gets to Verizon we are there.
Doubt that'll happen anytime soon (Or at all).
Jobs tends not to open up Apple products to many vendors at any one time (See Intel>AMD on the Mac side).

Blame both of them. AT&T for having shitty service and Apple for choosing a carrier with shitty service.

Sprint and my Blackberry look better and better with each iPhone/AT&T horror story I read.
I love my Stom and Verizon. If I really wanted to I could get a iPhone app for Blackberry that essentially emulates the look of the iPhone on my Storm.

Blackberrys are like PC's and iPhones are, well, like Apples. There's so much you can do with a Blackberry better than an iPhone that it's scary.

The biggest problem with iPhones in the U.S. is AT&T. If I could have my iPhone without AT&T, I would in a heartbeat. However, even with AT&T, I get pretty good coverage everywhere in town I usually am, so it's really not an issue for me. I love my iPhone. :)

I think At&T just really has horrible coverage here in my town. They treat Minneapolis like a red-headed step child.

AT&T just upgrade their 3G network in DFW area. So we are happy (my wife and I have one) ALSO we get 15% discount since we work for community college (yea employee discount)

There's really only 3 things it could be. The iPhone, the Network/SIM, or the User. Try replacing them one at a time until you find which one fixes the problem.

Make sure you back up your stuff first.

BTW: I added my mom to our plan cause she wanted an iPhone. She couldn't text us for some reason (she didn't try it out when she got it)

We went to the AT&T store and it turns out it was her SIM card error. They just image a new one and put into her phone.... viola!! it worked!

I'm on my fourth iPhone.

First one the speaker died on (this is actually a known "glitch")
Second one has bubbles form under the screen. (also a "glitch" I love the apple reps)
Third one just plain ole bricked for no reason.

I got my iphone last Thanksgiving so luckily everything has been under warranty and hasn't cost me a dime. Though the genius did try to charge me for the bubble issue initially, 150$. Buuuuullshiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Luckily I had read up on the issue and new that it was a common occurrence so I was able to argue him down.

I hate Apple. I hate the genius bar and the bullshit they feed their doe eyed customers. I'm looking at the droid phone but I despise Verizon (I actually love At&t and Comcast! So sug it!). Who knows what I'll do.

The only time my phone drops calls is in the elevator and certain places in the parking garage at work. And I'm on the EDGE network, I do not drop calls in either place.

I live in the D/FW area as well and could not love my iphone any more.
