Is this a Firefox issue? How do I fix it?

I use gmail. Whenever I am writing an e-mail, everytime I use a "' ' " (single quote) or a " / " (backslash) I get this quickfind links thingy above the status bar. It's really annoying because I'll type an entire sentence only to realize that I've lost it because the little prompt that's come up doesn't accept it. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Is there a setting in Firefox to stop that from happening? Or is that something gmail does, or an odd combination of the two? Help?

Those two buttons are quick-find shortcuts in Firefox, but they shouldn't be triggered when you're typing in a text box. Are you running the latest version of Firefox?

other solutions

  1. Resize your browser window (the instant and wonderful solution)
  2. Install this extension: http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/index-en.html#searchkeys and afterwards type about:config in the address bar to access Firefox's hidden preferences and toggle "searchkeys.disable.all" to true

It was happening to me in yahoo mail. I just upgraded to 3.6 - and the problem stopped.

Thanks guys. Just DL'ed 3.6 (not sure why Firefox hasn't prompted me to do that yet...) and its not longer an issue. I hope.
