It's strange, I keep getting surprised at how stupid people can be.

you'd think we should be used to it by now.

Isn't the whole point of games that you can do these things without having any real-world limitations or consequences?

While I had the same facepalm moment as everyone else, I was most surprised to see this at the end:

He added: "Perhaps what this research demonstrates is that the researchers misunderstand what games are, and how they are treated, intellectually, by the people who play them."
Surprising to see they actually included a counterpoint that doesn't assume gamers to be stupid.

Yeah, I was pretty pleased with that as well.

I've committed countless crimes against humanity in video games. I hesitate to kill a fly in real life. The sooner that people realize that we understand the difference between games and reality, the better.

I'm not sure what the outrage is about. The 'study' was surveying how humanitarian law is dealt with in video games. The only conclusion that I derived from that article is that the people who did the study would like more games to address what the real-life limitations are to conflict.

Now, that might be difficult or stupid for 24: The Game, or Army of Two, but I feel like I would appreciate it in a higher class, or more narrative-based game like the Modern Warfare franchise. If perhaps humanitarian law became a plot point, then it could really drive home the actual 'rules' of war. It might even promote a greater understanding of those laws, and lead to greater outrage when things like humanitarian law are violated in real life.

First a Japanese man marries a video game character, and now this?

And yes, some guy really did marry his virtual girlfriend. http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/man-marries-a-videogame/1376577
