Google's universal digital library's been nixed in the courts, which really comes as no surprise, given that they were simply scanning and posting copyrighted works. Even though some publishers and authors agreed to a deal, the judge struck it down because there were quite a few others that seemed to be pretty pissed about the whole thing - that and having their hard work put out there for free.

Hooray for copyright protection! Creative minds DON'T get screwed this time.

Actually, it looks like the judge affirmed that Google can in fact do so, merely that the settlement agreement allowing them to do so wasn't fair enough to copyright holders.
