The high level cleric (whatever they are called) have stated that they believe that women showing cleavage cause earthquakes. Now they are saying "suntanning" is another crime. and guess what? in that Country, when a cleric said so, it is a crime cause don't they also set the law?

My last roommate was from Iran. He said that most folks are not happy at all with their religious rulers. All the practicing Muslims I know don't care for the behavior of the extremists; as most Christians don't care for abortion clinic bombings or murder of doctors.

It sucks to be an Iranian right now. There's a lot of unrest and their President is a nutjob, but the people can't do much about it.

Pretty much this. Every Muslim I've known (outside of the hiding behind their religion criminal pricks that make up the drug trade up here) is basically the same as your roommate. I'm perfectly fine with someone being critical of Islam. I'm not fine with someone saying all Muslims will attack you. Just like I'm not fine with someone saying all Catholic priests are pedophiles.

When you're threatened several times just for questioning their faith, being fair and partial goes out the door pretty damn fast. I don't recall saying "all Muslims will attack" just that they are many who hold their belief's very close, almost to the point of fanaticism. Even in Canada.

The difference, I suppose, is that whilst the Catholic Church is an organisation (if one that has followers not specifically tied to that organisation), Islam is more of an overarching belief system, and thus too general for many criticisms to be valid.
