last minute cheap airfare?

me and my roomate are considering a trip to dallas this weekend (Sat to monday) for a surprise visit to one of our college buddies for his birthday. To book now normall, it is about 780 round trip. Thats excessive and extreme, and prohibitive.

Priceline, looks like I could get something for like 300, but that got me wondering, are there any other places to go to get last minute deals that airlines want to give to fill up empty seats? Just something to use in the future for somethign like this. i only know of priceline,a nd was wondering if there were any other places to look.

I have occasionally looked at Orbitz with some success.

If the ad on the top of the page is to believed, Kayak might also be useful. I'm not sure I believe it -- the one time I tried to get info from Kayak, it gave me a run around when I tried to enter airport codes, so I gave up.
