I think that what Shego's getting at is that if she didn't like the hero concept of WC3, why would she play a game that amplifies that aspect of the game.
Quite frankly, DoTA is ruining current RTSs for me. They're all starting to move towards that type of game play and removing the resource collecting and base building. That's my favorite part of RTSs.

I thought Dawn of War's mechanics were fairly interesting despite being more combat-focused. A decent balance.
Dawn of War 2 is one of the games I had in mind when I was making that post. They're doing the same thing with Command and Conquer 4 from everything I've been reading.
Despite DoW being more combat focused, it was still pretty much a traditional RTS.

I loved Dawn of War -- the way the control points worked, forcing you to expand without forcing you to micromanage, was a brilliant adjustment to the traditional RTS, I think.

Unless your playing it in single player mode. Then it's a Squad Based RTS, not Traditional RTS. Fucking hated the single player mode in Dawn of War 2.

Those aren't RTS's... unless you're talking DoW2, in MP it is a RTS, just without base building.
For DoW2 it would have worked better if they allowed you to build more static defenses like in CoH imo, but it's not bad... and it gets rid of having to learn build orders...

SP is more like RTT, as all the RTS parts go on between missions... but the SP had more problems then that, like how 90% of the time you just did the same thing...

I said DoW is more a traditional RTS, not DoW 2.

Played LoL for a good portion of me afternoon yesterday. Still getting the hang of the game, I kind of suck. Trying to figure out which champion I prefer most.
LoL is pretty fun. Also they completely scored on that acronym. Also it's free. My favorite characters are the unicorn lady - for actually being a viable support character, and Morrigan, for just dominating the field, and corki, for being a bastard when it comes to whittling down people's hit points and making them quit the field constantly to heal up.
Played about 20 games so far, doubt I'll play many more, since too many decent rpgs are eating at my time now and I'm already behind on my comic and have school coming up again soon.
