after the fishing boats in the gulf got their fill, our area was the first to get a crack at them as they entered the river. People all along the banks, pulling up 30-40 pounders. And then the people who knew how to fillet them would cut them up right there on the shore and start smoking strips of salmon in their portable smokers. The whole air would be filled with the smell of smoked salmon. Mmmmmmm, how I miss that!
